Los Angeles Lakers Notch Bounce Back Win Against Indiana Pacers Behind Luka Doncic’s Brilliance

Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic (77) passes the ball away from Indiana Pacers guard Aaron Nesmith (23) during the second half.

After dropping a close game to the East-leading Detroit Pistons on Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers got back on track quickly as they collected their 47th win of the season with an easy 137-130 win over the tanking Indiana Pacers on the road on Wednesday.

Luka Doncic’s Hot Streak Reaching Supernova Levels

It’s been a long time since the Los Angeles Lakers last saw a scorer of this caliber wearing the purple and gold, but Luka Doncic kept his scorching hot streak going with another fantastic outing. Doncic would finish the game with 43 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists, while also scoring 21 points in the first quarter to help the Lakers race out to a sizable 45-28 lead early in the game.

This outing comes after Doncic took home the Western Conference Player of the Week award, as he had a week to remember. The six-time All-Star averaged a monstrous 42 points per game, 7 rebounds per game, and 7 assists per game to lead the Lakers to an undefeated record last week. This recent game also marked the 11th straight 30-point outing for Doncic, a feat that hasn’t been done for the Lakers since the legendary Kobe Bryant accomplished it during the 2005-06 season.

While Luka magic was overtaking the court once again, the Lakers also got some nice contributions from some other notable names like LeBron James and Austin Reaves. James would finish with a near triple-double of 23 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists, while Reaves would finish as the second leading scorer for Los Angeles with 25 points in the win. The Lakers’ offense would be hitting on all cylinders, as they finished the game shooting 56% from the field.

Pacers Offense Keeps Pace with Lakers in Loss

Although there isn’t much to be expected from the Pacers as their lost season nears the finish line, Indiana is still showing what it is capable of heading into next season. The Pacers offense made up for a lot of the defensive failures they made throughout the game, as Indiana shot 56% from the field and knocked down an impressive 16 threes at a 41% clip. Indiana would also have 8 players finish in double figures in the loss.

The Pacers’ offensive attack was spearheaded by both Pascal Siakam and Andrew Nembhard, who put forth a solid performance each. Siakam would finish with a team-high 20 points and 8 rebounds, while Nembhard would have a career night as he notched a double-double of 14 points and 19 assists in just 34 minutes of playing time. That playmaking from Nembhard would prove to be infectious, as the Pacers finished with 35 total assists in the game.

This latest loss by the Pacers helps keep the team’s odds at landing the number one overall pick in the 2026 NBA draft, as they’re now tied for the best odds in the league at 14% to snag the top spot. This loss also helped the Pacers lottery odds overall, as they now have a 52.1% chance of getting a top-four pick in the draft, according to Sports Illustrated. Not a bad consolation prize for a season that turned out fairly sour.

Lakers Maintains Control of 3rd-Place in the West

As the NBA playoffs quickly approach, the margin for error in the Western Conference continues to be very slim among the 3rd-place through 6th-place positions out west. Lakers fans can find a bit of comfort in their latest win, as they still hold a strong two-game lead over the Denver Nuggets for the 3rd-place spot. This recent hot streak by Los Angeles has allowed the Lakers to slightly tighten their grip on a strong playoff spot, as they seek to finish with the 3rd seed in the Western Conference for the second straight year.
