New York Knicks Outlast San Antonio Spurs To Take Home 2025 NBA Cup
In a high-scoring affair in Las Vegas, the New York Knicks used a fourth-quarter surge to close out the San Antonio Spurs 124-113 to clinch the 2025 NBA Cup. Here’s how the Knicks were able to take home the third-ever NBA Cup.
Knicks Light Up Spurs From Deep In Win
Coming into the game, the New York Knicks ranked in the top 5 in the NBA in three-pointers made per game, and that trend continued tonight in a big way. New York was able to drain 15 three-pointers for the game at an efficient 38% clip overall. They also sank 4 of their 15 three-pointers in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
It was a team effort at the offensive end for New York, as the Knicks saw 7 players score in double digits on the night. Forward OG Anunoby led all Knicks scorers with 28 points while also hitting the backboard by grabbing 9 rebounds.
Knicks Bench Has Productive Outing
The scoring bug for the Knicks also jumped to the bench as the second unit had one of its more productive games of the season. Former Sixth Man of the Year Jordan Clarkson put on a show off the bench for New York, as he scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half.
Second-year Guard Tyler Kolek also put together one of the best games of his career. The former Marquette Golden Eagle dropped 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists in a well-rounded effort for New York.
Wembanyama and Spurs Have Fourth Quarter To Forget
After putting together an impressive second-half in the Spurs’ NBA Cup semifinal win versus OKC, French superstar Victor Wembanyama seemed on pace for an encore performance. Wembanyama scored 12 of his 18 points in the third quarter to keep the team within striking distance heading into the final period.
Unfortunately for the Spurs, the rim became very unforgiving for both Wembanyama and the team in the clutch. They only managed to score 19 points in the fourth quarter, with Wembanyama only managing to score 2 points the entire quarter.
On a more positive note for San Antonio, the guard trio of De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and rookie Dylan Harper continued to gel well despite the loss. All three guards scored in double digits, with Harper having one of his best scoring outings with 21 points in a valiant effort.
Extra Money In the Bank For the Knicks
While winning the NBA Cup is certainly something to be happy about, the extra cash each Knicks player will walk away with in the win will certainly make Christmas a little jollier for them.
Each Knicks player will receive a $530,000 bonus with this NBA Cup win; a nearly $16,000 increase compared to last year’s NBA Cup winnings. While that figure may not make a dent in most of the Knicks players’ multi-million-dollar salaries, some of the players on lower-end contracts will certainly be able to keep the lights on with this money.
