Jayson Tatum Day-to-Day After Suffering Game 1 Bone Bruise
Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum has been ruled day-to-day following a bone bruise in his wrist during game one of the NBA Playoffs. The Celtics defeated the Orlando Magic 103-86, taking a 1-0 series lead. In that game Tatum took a hard fall in the fourth quarter when he was fouled on a dunk attempt. He stayed in the game, but ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that he suffered a bone bruise in his right wrist. It was discovered in an MRI, and it is his shooting wrist.
Jayson Tatum’s Injury
Tatum was fouled by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope when he went up for a dunk. After the fall, Tatum was down on the floor, clutching his wrist. He stayed in the game, even making a deep three to help the Celtics secure the victory, but according to Charania’s report, he is now considered day-to-day with the injury. Now, his status is up in the air for game two on Wednesday. Jayson Tatum is someone who tries to play through injuries. Earlier in March, he only missed one game after an ankle sprain. However, this bone bruise on his shooting wrist is something that could linger, not only for this first-round series against the Magic but for the entire playoffs.
Last season, Tatum led the Celtics in points, rebounds and assists during their run to the NBA championship. This season was also one of his best, averaging 26.8 points, 8.7 rebounds and six assists per game. Losing him for any stretch would be devastating for Boston and their hopes of going back-to-back. Even if he does not miss many games, this injury could linger and hinder his performance. Jaylen Brown is already entering the playoffs with a knee injury and may not be 100%, while other players like Kristaps Porzingis also have a history of injuries.
Final Thoughts
Right now, Tatum’s injury is being taken day by day. He has not been ruled out yet, but it is something to monitor and worry about. Tatum is the engine that makes the Celtics run, so if they want their title hopes intact, they will need him healthy.
