The Boston Celtics star player, Jaylen Brown, has missed the last two games with a left hip flexor strain. He has also been ruled out for the Celtics upcoming game against the Golden State Warriors. Brown’s hip injury is said to be one that he was playing through before being ruled out, but he is now set to miss three consecutive games. This has Boston fans worrying about the seriousness of the injury and whether one of their star players is going to miss significant time.

When Boston Celtics Head Coach Joe Mazzulla was asked about Jaylen Brown’s recovery, he said, “Day-to-day… He’s been playing through it for a little while.” Brown’s injury being described as day-to-day is a good thing, meaning that it is hopefully not serious. And, considering that Brown was playing through the injury, his statistics did not dip. In his last five games, Brown scored 27, 24, 30, 25, and 25 again.
He is currently averaging 25.7 points per game on the young season, an uptick from last year, when he averaged 23.0. The only downside to Brown’s recent games has been his shooting struggles. In his past three games, Brown has shot 1-of-21 from three.
Jaylen Brown has gotten an MRI on his hip, and when asked about his injury, said, “I haven’t felt like my legs have been underneath me … It’s more [affecting] my explosion and my burst … Thinking about it kind of throws everything off a little bit, but I’ll be fine.” Because it is so early in the season, the Celtics should take caution with Brown’s injury. They currently sit at 7-1 and should not rush him back if he is not fully healthy. The worst thing that could happen for Boston would be bringing Brown back too early and reaggravating or worsening the injury. Even if the injury is not severe, the Celtics should not take any chances.

The Boston Celtics have played two games without Jaylen Brown, and in those two games, they have won by double figures. The Celtics defeated the Charlotte Hornets 113-103 and the Atlanta Hawks 123-93. This has led many people to suggest that the Celtics are just as dominant without Jaylen Brown on the floor. They have won their two games without him and the victory against Atlanta was an emphatic blowout that was over by halftime. This is more of a testament though to the talent and depth of the Celtics than an indictment on Brown.
The real test for the Celtics without Brown will be their upcoming contest against the Golden State Warriors. While the wins over the Hawks and Hornets were impressive, neither of those teams has winning records. The Warriors are currently 6-1 and have beaten the Celtics before in the 2022 NBA Finals. Jaylen Brown adds a defensive intensity and inside scoring the Celtics would need against a team like Golden State and winning without him would be a challenge. Brown’s contributions to the Celtics and their success are missed with him out of action.
