The Golden State Warriors aren’t NBA playoff contenders anymore. Still, Draymond Green isn’t thinking about retiring from the NBA. Green told the Casino Guru News, “As long as my body feels good, and if I feel like I can go out there and compete at a high enough level, you just want to give yourself the opportunity. From what I hear about retirement, you’ll know when it’s time. But I don’t feel like it’s time yet.”

Green’s opening statement makes sense. At 36 years old, he’s 14 years into his NBA career as a veteran forward. He’s one of the oldest players in the NBA.

Green added, “I want to continue to try to win … Try to win at a high level, both from a team perspective and individually. I want to continue to try to add different things to the resume. Ultimately, you set out to do this. You set out to build a great resume, and the beautiful thing is that, as long as you’re playing this game, you have a chance to add to the resume.

“So that’s my goal. From a team perspective, from an individual perspective, continue to try to get better, try to stay in the category of playing elite-level basketball for as long as I possibly can.”

His secondary statement confirms that he believes there is more for him to accomplish. He averaged 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 5.5 assists in 27.5 minutes per game this regular season, along with 41.8% shooting from the field, 32.6% from the three-point line, and 70.2% from the free throw line. He was a starter in all 65 games he played.

Green Stresses Importance Of Leading Young Teammates

Green’s well aware that the Warriors are facing an uphill battle entering the 2026 NBA Play-In Tournament. Golden State needs two wins to advance to the main bracket. As a result, Green told the Casino Guru News that he has been trying to give advice to his younger teammates while leading by example.

Green said, “Those conversations are important, just sharing the experience, trying to keep their spirits up … But it’s also about what you do. How do you approach the game? How do you go out there and approach it from a day-to-day basis?

“Because what you can do is think you’re just going to go tell them, ‘Oh man, it’s like this,’ and yet you’re showing something different on the court. I think it’s very important, on a day-to-day, to be the example as well. Not just speaking on your experience and what it should look like, but being that example for them.”

His statement shows that there’s another side to the man of many words. He’s a leader with a leadership style that blends emotional intelligence, mentorship, and accountability. He’s not perfect, as his anger issues spill out on the court, but he’s committed to the Warriors’ future.

Green Shares Solution To a Surprise Playoff Run

The Warriors’ silver lining last year came after acquiring then-Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler. Butler and Stephen Curry played together, helped the Warriors to a 16-2 record, and subsequently won the first round of the NBA Playoffs. However, Curry suffered a hamstring injury, and Golden State lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the semifinals.

The Warriors have a 46-22 record with Butler in the lineup. His torn right ACL ended his season and could potentially end the Warriors’ postseason run early, but we’ll see.

The Warriors will be short-handed this year, but Green told the Casino Guru News that ball movement is the Warriors’ best shot at making a surprise run in the Western Conference. He added that he just wants to make sure the team is close toward the end of games to put themselves in a position to win.
