Domantas Sabonis Undergoes Season-Ending Surgery

Sacramento Kings forward Domantas Sabonis warms up before a game

Sacramento Kings star Domantas Sabonis underwent season-ending surgery to repair the torn meniscus in his left knee, sources told ESPN. Sabonis, 29, rehabbed the meniscus during the 2025-26 NBA season and tried to play through the left knee injury before undergoing surgery on Wednesday morning.

The injury update was announced just days after Kings star and leading scorer Zach LaVine underwent surgery to repair his right hand following the 2026 NBA All-Star break. LaVine, 30, will also miss the rest of the 2025-26 NBA season.

Both players were heavily involved in trade discussions in recent weeks. Sacramento is looking to rebuild, but the trade deadline has passed.

Domantas Sabonis Underwent Season-Ending Surgery

Sabonis underwent season-ending surgery on his left knee, a negative sign for the Kings’ fanbase, who are faithful but deserve better in the future. It’s unclear if success is soon or far, but the Kings’ 12-44 record is the worst in the NBA.

ESPN’s Shams Charania broke the news on Wednesday afternoon, taking to X, formerly Twitter, “Sacramento Kings star Domantas Sabonis underwent season-ending surgery on Wednesday morning to repair the torn meniscus in his left knee, sources tell ESPN. Sabonis rehabbed the meniscus tear during the season and tried to play through the injury before having surgery now.”

Domantas Sabonis’ Outlook

Sabonis’ outlook is straightforward. The Lithuanian-American big man likely won’t return until next season at the earliest. He averaged 15.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game, and shot 54.3% from the field, 18.5% from the three-point range, and 72.7% from the free throw line this season.

Sacramento Kings’ Outlook

The Sacramento Kings’ outlook is clear. The Kings are currently sitting at the bottom of the NBA’s Western Conference and will likely stay there.

The Kings host the Orlando Magic, who are without star Franz Wagner due to a left ankle sprain, on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Pacific. The Kings have a challenging opponent in the Magic, despite Wagner’s indefinite injury absence.
