Damian Lillard Suffers Major Injury in 2025 NBA Playoffs
Damian Lillard is one of the top players in the NBA and is a major reason why the Milwaukee Bucks have to be considered threats in the Eastern Conference, alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, it appears that things may not be looking too well for the veteran point guard as during Game 4 of the first round, Lillard suffered an injury to his lower body and was helped off the court. Let’s take a closer look at what the reports are saying and what this injury means for the Milwaukee Bucks going forward.
Damian Lillard Suffers Major Injury
ESPN’s Shams Charania has reported that Damian Lillard has been diagnosed with a torn left Achilles tendon. This was feared when he went down on the court in the first quarter of Game 4 against the Indiana Pacers and it happened exactly one year to the day after he suffered a strained Achilles and was forced to be in a walking boot. Lillard appeared in three games this postseason after missing the last month of the regular season due to blood clots.
This is a massive blow to the 34-year-old point guard as this almost certainly means he will miss the 2025-26 season. In terms of his contract, he has a two-year, $112.5 million max contract extension that is set to kick in beginning next season. He has a $58.45 million player option for the 26-27 NBA season, which almost certainly will now be exercised. This is devastating news for the Milwaukee Bucks as they are going to be without one of the best point guards of this generation for the season.
While leaving the court in Game 4, Lillard was unable to apply any pressure on his leg. Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Anttokounmpo discussed Damian Lillard in the Game 4 postgame press conference.
“It’s tough being in that position, but he’s one of the strongest, most mentally tough players I’ve ever been around, and that’s why he’s who he is. I believe he’s going to overcome any obstacle in front of him. We’re all going to be there for him. Whatever the challenge is, he’s going to get through it, and we’ll help him through it.”
Lillard fell to the ground attempting to grab an offensive rebound late in the first quarter of Sunday’s Game 4.
