Anthony Davis Suffered a Left Hand Injury
Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis suffered ligament damage in his left hand, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania and Tim MacMahon. Here’s what you need to know about Davis’ latest injury.
Anthony Davis Suffered a Left Hand Injury
Anthony Davis’ latest injury โ ligament damage in his left hand โ is bad news, but at the same time, a numb feeling for any NBA fan who has grown accustomed to hearing about his injuries in recent years.
On Friday, ESPN’s Shams Charania posted, “Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis has sustained ligament damage in his left hand, sources tell me and Tim MacMahon. Depending on second opinion and if surgery is required, Davis could miss a number of months.”
Charania’s post attracted ample attention. One X, formerly Twitter, wrote, “Mavs front office realizing they traded Luka Doncic for nothing.” Another X user responded, “Yeah, that’s it, I can’t take anymore.” All of the responses โ except for the personal attacks โ were typical reactions from the NBA fans.
Anthony Davis’ Outlook
When healthy, Anthony Davis is one of the best players on the Dallas Mavericks roster and in the NBA. This season, Davis, 32, is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 2.8 rebounds, along with 50.6% shooting from the field and 27.0% shooting from three-point range.
Pending a second opinion and potential surgery, Mavericks โ and NBA fans โ have every right to be upset at the moment. The Mavericks’ trade partially failed and even shifted the Western Conference balance of power. The Los Angeles Lakers became a superteam, while the Mavs become a bottom-feeder, at the time.
Final Thoughts
It’s unclear when Anthony Davis will return to the court, but it’s important for the Mavericks’ athletic training staff to ensure a full recovery for him. There’s essentially no use to speed up Davis’ recovery, only for him to re-injure himself and/or suffer an injury scare.
The Mavs have been rising up but they may want to improve their overall situation ahead of the NBA’s trade deadline. Davis’ extensive injury history raises concern for fans and media members alike. His camp is likely seeking a contract extension with another team.
