Moussa Diaby to Al-Ittihad is Confirmed: €60m 5-Year Contract Signed

Moussa Diaby is set to move to Al-Ittihad in a deal that is worth around €60 million ($65.3m). Diaby is currently playing for Aston Villa. He arrived last summer at the club from Bayer Leverkusen.

His arrival in Aston Villa was very much appreciated by the team’s fans for he revived the dream of restoring their glory in the European football scene. His deal to Villa was worth €40m plus other benefits included. His seal was to last for 5 years till 2028. However, his exit soon raises the question if the club can sign and maintain another talented football player.

Despite the challenges of his team, Moussa still managed to shine and attract the Saudi Pro League team. This is the second time he is getting attention from a Saudi team. Last summer, reports going round indicated that Al Nassr was also interested in him.

Diaby made 54 game appearances last season for Aston Villa. He played in 38 Premier League games where he scored 10 goals and provided 9 assists. They finished in the fourth position in the league. He played a major part in helping his team qualify for the Champions League after a whopping 41 years.

His greatest gift to his team and himself was winning the Premier League’s Most Powerful Goal of the season in a tough game where they were outdone in ball possession, passes, and shots. His goal was not only fast, but strategic. The goal entered the post through the top right corner, going past four defenders and the goalkeeper. Oracle Connect using its Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) was responsible for calculating the speed of that goal and reported that

Moussa Diaby’s strike against Wolves on March 30 had an average velocity of 68.25 miles per hour (109.84 kilometers per hour).

Earlier this year, his team manager Unai Emery had nothing but good things to say about his forward,

For different players, the adaptation of the Premier League and our idea, style, demands – it is easier or sometimes more difficult. Moussa Diaby, he is getting better and he is with the possibility to play in different positions. He can play more wide, as a number 10 inside, as a second striker and I am very happy with his progression. Often, I am speaking about him about the possibility to play in different positions and to get his best performances, his adaptation higher too.

Diaby’s transfer will earn his team good money. Unfortunately, the departure of Diaby just after one season at Aston Villa is raising red flags about the team. His signing last season revived hope in the team and many hoped that they would reclaim their lost glory in European football. However, losing him to the Saudi League club will be a setback for the team. Many are questioning Villa’s capacity to sign and grow talented players in the future.

Moussa Diaby Deal with Al-Ittihad

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano shared the news on Diaby’s deal with Al-Ittihad on his X profile.

He wrote,

Moussa Diaby to Al Ittihad, here we go! Deal verbally agreed with Aston Villa for €60m package, add-ons included. Diaby has agreed on five year deal and now waiting for paperworks to review then sign.

Once the deal is done, Moussa Diaby will be able to play along with his two fellow Frenchmen;  Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante at Al Ittihad.
