Michael Bisping Slams Jake Paul for ‘Laughable’ 10-1 Boxing Career

Former UFC champion and current analyst Michael Bisping

Since he kicked off his boxing career in 2020, most members of the MMA community have frowned upon Jake Paul for more reasons than one. The animosity built up within Michael Bisping over the years and caused the former UFC champion to finally snap in the wake of Paul’s TKO win over BKFC star and ex-UFC welterweight Mike Perry.

Bisping has always been critical of Paul and his career habit of fighting retired MMA fighters who he significantly outweighs but could not hold anything back in his harsh opinion of the former YouTuber on July 21. Just one day after Paul’s signature win over Perry, Bisping poked several holes in the 27-year-old’s career that he deemed as “laughable.”

Michael Bisping Blasts Jake Paul

While many in the MMA community disregarded Jake Paul’s recent win over Mike Perry, Michael Bisping could not help himself from pouring on criticism of the boxer in a recent YouTube video. Bisping pointed out the same factors in the fight that many others noted including the significant weight difference between Paul and Perry but unloaded on the former Disney Channel actor for pursuing a fight with 58-year-old Mike Tyson.

Bisping said:

I still don’t have respect [for Jake Paul] because that was pure bully-boy tactics. The size difference was remarkable… Why isn’t he fighting someone his size? It’s an embarrassment to all the people that lace up a pair of gloves as a young boy… To call out Alex Pereira — that’s definitely not going to happen — and in the same breath call out Mike Tyson [who is] 58 years old? It is absolutely laughable.

‘The Count’ credited Paul for “being a draw” but followed that sentiment up by noting that he believes he is only an attraction to “12-year-old boys.”

Jake Paul’s win over Mike Perry

Michael Bisping’s comments came in the aftermath of Jake Paul’s sixth-round TKO win over Mike Perry on July 20 in Tampa, Florida. The date was originally scheduled to be the mega-fight between Paul and Mike Tyson but the latter withdrew from the matchup and requested the fight to be postponed after suffering an ulcer flare-up in May.

Paul welcomed a matchup with Perry on one month’s notice to keep the date in place while still re-booking his fight with Tyson for Nov. 15. Perry, a 5-0 bare-knuckle boxer and the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the BKFC, held his own in the matchup despite the roughly 30-pound weight difference but was knocked down for a third time in the sixth round before stumbling in front of the referee to cause a TKO stoppage.

Future Fight with Mike Tyson

As Michael Bisping alluded to, Jake Paul called out both Mike Tyson and UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira in his post-fight interview in the ring. Even though the fight with Tyson is expected to occur on Nov. 15 at the AT&T Stadium as the inaugural live boxing event on Netflix, ‘The Problem Child’ taunted the former heavyweight champion in his callout, telling ‘Iron’ to sign the contract.

As of July 22, Netflix is promoting the fight on its website, indicating that both sides have already signed the contract to put the motion into place. Tyson has not competed in the ring since “fighting” Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition in 2020 and has not fought professionally since 2005. The bout has been reported to commence as a fully sanctioned professional fight despite concerns about Tyson’s age and health.

Tyson’s last fight with Jones Jr. was the headline of a pay-per-view event that featured Paul in the co-main event in his second professional fight against retired NBA star Nate Robinson.
