Jose Mourinho Will Bring All Eyes on Turkish Football After a Big Signing with Fenerbahce

Manchester United

José Mourinho said at his first Fenerbahce news conference that his signing and reputation would bring more attention to the Turkish league, adding that he aimed to win the Super League and make it to the Champions League group stage next season. Fenerbahce hasn’t won the title since the 2013-14 campaign, and their last trophy was the Turkish Super Cup in 2014. Fenerbahce finished second to Galatasaray in the league this year despite only losing one game, meaning the Istanbul club will need to go through qualifying to book a spot in the Champions League’s newly revamped league phase. To him, Fenerbahce means ambition and he would require fans to be patient.

Jose Mourinho is wasting no time in shaping his new squad at Fenerbahce, with reports suggesting he has his eye on a familiar face from his time at Chelsea. After a brief hiatus following his departure from Roma, Mourinho has returned to the managerial scene with a two-year contract at the Turkish club, aiming to secure the Super Lig title. Despite boasting a roster featuring notable players like Fred and Edin Dzeko, Mourinho’s reputation precedes him, hinting at potential high-profile signings for Fenerbahce.

As the transfer window progresses and the presidential elections unfold, all eyes will be on Mourinho as he seeks to mold his squad into contenders for both domestic and European glory.

Mourinho Dreams of Winning the Turkish League with Fenerbahce

Jose Mourinho said he was dreaming of winning the Turkish Super Lig with new club Fenerbahce but that he is making “no promises” during a press conference that was followed online by more than 80,000 people. Mourinho was speaking from Fenerbahce headquarters after he was appointed coach of the Istanbul-based club. Last season, Fenerbahce missed out on the league title to arch-rivals Galatasaray by three points despite finishing on a total of 99 across the 38-game campaign.

The club’s last league title dates back to 2014. Mourinho boasts five European titles, including two Champions Leagues, across his managerial career with Inter Milan, Porto, Manchester United and Roma.

A Decorated German International Passed Through Hell at Manchester United

Fenerbahce’s newly-appointed head coach Jose Mourinho, one of the most successful football coaches in history, is after new challenges with the Turkish Super Lig powerhouse. Nicknamed “The Special One”, Mourinho was being unveiled as Fenerbahce senior team’s new boss. He got a warm welcome in Istanbul, and a signing ceremony for him was held.

The 61-year-old Portuguese head coach has bagged 26 trophies during his successful career, including all three UEFA club trophies — the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League. Mourinho previously won the top-tier Champions League with Porto and Inter Milan, the second-tier Europa League with Porto and Manchester United, and the Europa Conference League with Roma.

“One of the things is, I bring attention in with me. More people in Europe will follow the Turkish league,” Mourinho said on Monday. “I’m coming to work for Turkish football, for Turkish Super Lig. But fundamentally I come for Fenerbahce.

“My wish is that Turkish football improves at every level. But if I have to raise my voice to defend Fenerbahce I will not think twice,”
