New York Yankees Re-Sign Ryan Yarbrough To 1 Year Deal
The New York Yankees have re-signed RP/SP Ryan Yarbrough to a one-year deal. New York brought the lefty in before the start of the 2025 season as depth in the bullpen, and had the ability to pitch a ton of innings as a spot starter.
Easy Decision For The Yankees
Bringing back Yarbrough was a very easy decision for Brian Cashman to make. With how many injuries they had in the starting rotation last year, it was further proof that you can never have enough pitching. He appeared in 19 games for the Yankees last season and made eight starts. He was placed on the 15-day injured list in June, which completely derailed his season. Yarbrough returned in September as a reliever and was not put on the playoff roster.
The Yankees’ bullpen had a ton of different arms come in and out all season long, so it was hard to find a role for Yarbrough late in the season. Heading into 2026, New York will be without Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon. If they don’t want to spend big on a starter in free agency, Yarbrough would slot into the rotation and is a cheap option. Yarbrough has a great pitch mix, and his slower velocity throws a ton of hitters off balance.
His arsenal consists of five different pitches: a Cutter, Changeup, Sweeper, Sinker, and 4-Seam Fastball. Yarbrough’s ability to be effective while throwing under 90 MPH is extremely impressive, and a reason why he makes the Yankees more versatile.
What’s Next For New York?
After re-signing Ryan Yarbrough, I expect the Yankees to turn their attention to the lineup, specifically the outfield. They have multiple avenues to go via Trade or Free Agency. Re-signing Cody Bellinger will be a top priority this offseason, and that could trigger multiple trades. If they can’t get a deal done with Bellinger, they could pivot to Kyle Tucker or someone like Steven Kwan.
Another player at the top of the Yankees’ wish list is Japanese Ace Tatsuya Imai. The rising star will be posted this Wednesday, opening his 45-day negotiating window. New York is viewed as the frontrunner to land Imai, as they look to land their first Japanese star since Masahiro Tanaka.
This is a good start for Brian Cashman to kick off their offseason, but there is still a lot of work to be done. Any further moves are likely to occur in the coming weeks, once the Winter Meetings officially begin.
