New York Yankees Lose To Los Angeles Angels 7-1 As Bats Go Cold
The Yankees did not get another strong performance from Starting Pitcher Ryan Weathers, who pitched 8 innings of 1-run ball in his last start. He gave up four solo home runs in the first four innings pitched, and in a row in the first. The Yankees lost this game 7-1. This game was tamer than the game last night; it had to be. The point of the rule changes in baseball was to speed up games. That definitely did not happen in last night’s marathon that lasted 3 hours and 36 minutes.
The Yankees played this game at home, like last night’s game. Consistency is important in baseball. Weathers was great in his last outing. He gave up four solo home runs this evening in his first four innings pitched. That deficit of four runs proved to be too much for the Yankees to overcome. Do you think the Yankees will be able to win tonight’s game?
Yankees and Los Angeles Angels Game Summary
This game was not as exciting, and the result for the Yanks was not as good. Weathers, who pitched well in his last start, gave up four solo home runs in his first four innings pitched. That deficit proved to be too much for the offensively-challenged New Yorkers to overcome. While the Angels have four home runs and five hits in the first four innings, the Yanks have had only one hit.
The Yanks need Weathers to pitch well, especially with Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, and Clarke Schmidt out. Giving up four home runs, three in the first inning, is not the way to go. The Yanks were hoping they would get six innings from Weathers, but he walked Jorge Soler, one of the guys who hit a home run off him, to lead off the sixth inning. Paul Blackburn replaced him. He was not the answer.
About Last Night
The game on Monday night proved to be an 11-10 victory for the Yankees. They walked the Los Angeles Angels on a wild pitch after blowing 4-0 and 7-4 leads. This game was probably the most insane game of the Major League Baseball season. It was certainly the craziest game the Yanks have played all season.
In the game, Aaron Judge hit two home runs for the Yankees. So did Trent Grisham. Between them, they drove in eight runs. Mike Trout hit two home runs for the Los Angeles Angels. It seemed like every batter in this game fought hard for a hit, fouling off pitches until they got one they liked.
As mentioned above, the Yankees blew leads of 4-0 and 7-4 in this game. They were losing 10-8 before Grisham hit his second home run of the game, a two-run home run. They then won the game on a wild pitch to Ryan McMahon. Jose Caballero scored. They won in their last at-bat 11-10.
A Microcosm Of Mike Trout
On Monday night, Mike Trout hit two home runs. He drove in five runs. He even made a great catch in center field. He did everything he could, and the Los Angeles Angels lost the game. Unfortunately for him, that is exactly what has happened to him his entire career. He has unbelievable career statistics, which are now fading as he gets older, that have been accrued in relative obscurity. That is unfortunate for him. Everyone should feel that way.
In a side note, when the Los Angeles Angels play the New York Yankees, there are four former Most Valuable Players on the field: Trout, Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Paul Goldschmidt. Having three former Most Valuable Players on their roster is not helping the Yankees.
