New York Yankees Beat Los Angeles Angels 11-10 To End 5-Game Losing Streak

Apr 12, 2026; St. Petersburg, Florida, USA; New York Yankees designated hitter Aaron Judge (99) reacts after hitting a two run home run against the Tampa Bay Rays in the ninth inning at Tropicana Field.

The Yankees hit two-run home runs in the first and second innings last night. Those runs were much needed for the team that struggles to score runs and has lost five games in a row. However, the Angels tied this game at four before a monster three-run home run for Trent Grisham. The Yankees blew two leads in this game, but won 11-10.

Speaking of Will Warren, he outpitched Yusei Kikuchi, throwing up zeros while Kikuchi and the Los Angeles Angels struggled. To complicate matters further, the Angels made two errors in the first two innings. How many games do you think the Yankees will win in this series?

Yankees and Angels Game Summary

The story of this game was in the first three innings. The Angels did not score a run, and the Yankees scored four. They hit two two-run home runs. Aaron Judge hit one, and Jose Cabellero hit the other. The Angels also made two errors, and their starting pitcher threw 65 pitches in the first two innings. It was not a good look.

Equally not a good look was the Yankees’ defensive fourth inning. They threw 55 pitches. Warren was knocked out of the game by a 10-pitch at-bat, and Fernando Cruz relieved him and walked the first two batters he faced. A 4-0 lead morphed into a 4-4 tie. Grisham hit a pinch-hit three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning. That was his first home run of the year. Both Judge and Mike Trout hit two home runs in this game.

The Yankees’ Losing Streak

Coming into this game, the Yankees had lost five games in a row. They were swept in a three-game series in Tampa and dropped the last two games of their three-game series with the Athletics. One has to wonder if losing begets more losing. Technically, the answer to this question is no, as in baseball, how a team does in a game has a lot to do with their starting pitcher. That said, when things go wrong for a team, like they are slumping in hitting or fielding poorly, those things do tend to carry over from game to game.

The Error Of Their Ways

It was not surprising that the Angels made two errors in the first two innings. They are 26th in Major League Baseball, making an average of .81 errors per game. That makes the pitcher throw more pitches and work very hard.

How Great Is Mike Trout?

We all know of Trout’s greatness. We also know he is getting older and will not play forever. Time is an undefeated opponent. However, just how great is Trout? He has 406 home runs in his career and a .293 career batting average. He is an 11-time All-Star and was named the Most Valuable Player in consecutive All-Star games.

People do not realize his greatness because the Millbrook, New Jersey native has toiled in relative obscurity playing for a terrible Angels team.
