Will Warren Tries to Keep 4-Game Winning Streak Going For New York Yankees
Will Warren is the starting pitcher for the New York Yankees as the Yankees try to take advantage of the weak Chicago White Sox. A win would extend their winning streak to five. They were able to do that with a 10-4 win. Warren pitched poorly for the Yankees, surrendering a grand slam in the second inning, but he did not pitch well enough to give one confidence that he was a viable starter for the Yankees. It is fair to wonder if Warren will be able to put it together. Do you think Warren should be in the playoff rotation for the Yankees?
Lineups For Yanks in Support of Will Warren
The White Sox had Mike Tauchman leading off and playing right field. Miguel Vargas was the first baseman and batted second. Michael Taylor pinch-hit for him after Vargas was injured. Taylor played center field. Kyle Teel batted third and was the catcher. Lenyn Sosa batted fourth and was the second baseman. Andrew Benintendi played left field and batted fifth.
Edgar Quero was the designated hitter and batted sixth. Curtis Mead was the third baseman and batted seventh. He moved to first base. Brooks Baldwin was the center fielder and batted eighth. He moved to third base. Chase Meidroth was the shortstop and batted ninth.Â
For the Yankees to support Warren, Trent Grisham played center field and led off. Ben Rice was the catcher and batted second. Aaron Judge was the designated hitter and batted third. Cody Bellinger was the left fielder and batted fourth. Giancarlo Stanton was the right fielder and batted fifth. Jose Caballero replaced him defensively in the seventh inning. Jazz Chisholm Jr. was the second baseman and batted sixth. Paul Goldschmidt was the first baseman and batted seventh. Ryan McMahon was the third baseman and batted eighth. Anthony Volpe was the shortstop and batted ninth.Â
News and Notes
Grisham is having the best season of his career. With 25 home runs, the pending free agent is going to get paid. He says that mentality is the key to his success this year. Whatever it is, it is well timed.
The baby bombers are making news again, this time with the son of a former major leaguer. After leading Texas A&M this spring with 19 multi-hit outings, Kaeden Kent delivered his second in pro ball. The son of 2000 National League Most Valuable Player, Jeff Kent, collected five hits for the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades, starting with his second home run in the past month. The left-handed-hitting shortstop followed that up by going single, single, double, single to finish with three runs batted in and a pair of runs scored.
Game Reaction
The Yankees’ first-inning home run by Bellinger was their 41st first-inning home run of the season. That leads MLB. That was a good way to support Warren. Also, a good way to support Warren is that Stanton was in the starting lineup. Stanton is red-hot, and while Judge is injured and cannot play the field, the Yankees should consider batting Stanton as the designated hitter and giving the ailing Judge a day off. Will Warren made a bad mistake in the second inning. He loaded the bases and then gave up a grand slam home run. He pitched five innings, and oddly, none of the four runs he gave up, all on that grand slam, were earned.
Scoring Summary
In the first inning, Bellinger hit a two-run home run. Aaron Judge scored. The Yankees led 2-0. In the second inning, Chisholm Jr. hit a solo home run, his eighth of the month. The Yankees led 3-0. Then, Rice singled and Volpe scored. It was 4-0 Yankees. In the second inning, Vargas hit a grand slam. Quero scored, as did Baldwin and Meidroth. The game was tied at four.
In the fifth inning, Judge hit an infield single and Rice scored. Then, Chisholm Jr. hit a sacrifice fly and Judge scored. When it was all said and done, the Yankees led 6-4. In the eighth inning, Volpe hit a sacrifice fly and Goldschmidt scored. The Yankees took a 7-4 lead. Then Grisham hit a two-run home run, and Mchahon scored as well. The Yankees led 9-4. In the ninth inning, Goldschmidt hit a sacrifice fly and Bellinger scored. The Yankees led 10-4.
Conclusion
The Yankees’ win in this game was good; the White Sox are an inferior team. Warren and the Yankees have three more chances against the White Sox until they travel to take on Houston. The Yankees need to win these games because Houston starts a very tough portion of the schedule for the Yankees, where they play three more series against teams that are in a playoff position, and then the schedule gets easier. The Yankees have the second-easiest schedule in baseball.
