Will Warren Tries To Beat Garrett Crochet In Game 3

Will Warren had a big opportunity before him, but he faced a tough challenge in Boston Red Sox Starting Pitcher Garrett Crochet. Crochet is one of the best pitchers in the American League. He may win the Cy Young award. Warren was nervous and allowed six runs in the first inning. That proved to be enough for ace Crochet and the Red Sox bullpen. Lineups: As Will Warren Gets Killed

The Boston Red Sox had Jarren Duran leading off, and he was the left fielder. Alex Bregman was the third baseman and batted second. Trevor Story was the shortstop and batted third. Nathaniel Lowe was the first baseman and batted fourth.  Romy Gonzalez was the second baseman and batted fifth. Masataka Yoshida was the designated hitter and batted sixth. Rob Refsnyder was the right fielder and batted seventh.  Nate Eaton pinch-ran for him in the eighth inning. Carlos Narvaez was the catcher and batted eighth. Ceddanne Rafaela was the center fielder and batted ninth. 

For the Yankees, Austin Slater played right field and led off. He moved to left field in the eighth inning. Aaron Judge was the designated hitter and batted second. Cody Bellinger was the center fielder and batted third. He moved to right field in the eighth inning. Giancarlo Stanton was the left fielder and batted fourth. Ryan McMahon came in defensively for him and played third base.

Amed Rosario was the third baseman and batted fifth. Trent Grisham pinch-hit for him in the eighth inning. He stayed in to play center field. Paul Goldschmidt was the first baseman and batted sixth. Jazz Chisholm Jr. was the second baseman and batted seventh. Jose Caballero was the shortstop and batted eighth.  Ben Rice was the catcher and batted ninth.

They accomplished their stated goal of winning seven out of twelve games against potential playoff teams. With the wins and now playing weak teams, whom they beat up on, the Yankees are in good shape for the playoff push.

Game Reaction

The Red Sox ambushed Warren. They swung at the first seven pitches and scored a lot in the first inning. The first five batters all got hits, and they scored 6 runs. Warren did settle down. He, at one point, retired seven Red Sox batters in a row. What he did was allow his team to get back in the game.

Crochet pitched six innings, and Will Warren pitched 5. Goldschmidt made a great defensive play in the sixth inning. He has won four Gold Gloves. After scoring six runs in the first inning, the Red Sox offense disappeared. Warren deserves credit for throwing four shutout innings after a disastrous first inning.

Scoring Summary

In the first inning, Bregman singled, and Duran, who tripled, scored. It was 1-0 Red Sox. Then Lowe singled and Bregman scored. It was 2-0 Red Sox. Then Gonzalez doubled and Story scored. The Red Sox led 3-0. Then Yoshida hit a sacrifice fly, and Lowe scored. It was 4-0 Red Sox. Then, Refsnyder grounded out, and Gonzalez scored. It was 5-0 Red Sox. Then Narvaez hit a solo home run. It was 6-0 Red Sox.

In the fourth inning, Rosario hit a two-run home run. It was 6-2 Red Sox. In the fifth inning, Judge hit a solo home run. It was 6-3 Red Sox.  In the seventh inning, Caballero hit a solo home run. That brought the Yankees to within 6-4

Conclusion

Warren deserves some credit. After getting killed in the first inning, allowing six runs, he settled down and threw four shutout innings. That allowed the Yankees to get back into the game, slowly chipping away at the Red Sox’s lead. That forced the Red Sox to use their high-leverage relievers. They used both Garrett Whitlock and Aroldis Chapman.
