Toronto Blue Jays Storm Back In Game 4 To Even World Series
The Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers entered Game 4 tonight after one of the greatest games in postseason history last night. Shohei Ohtani would take the mound after reaching base safely on all nine of his plate appearances last night. Shane Bieber would take the ball for Toronto, as they looked to bounce back from a crushing loss.
Blue Jays Blow It Open In 7th Inning
Kike Hernandez started things off for the Dodgers tonight with a sacrifice fly, scoring Max Muncy in the second inning. Toronto would take the lead off of Vladimir Guerrero Jr’s two-run home run off of Ohtani. Per Francys Romero, Guerrero is now tied with Pablo Sandal (26) for the most hits in a single postseason of all time. He only trails Randy Arozarena, who had 29 hits in the 2020 postseason.
The Blue Jays blew the game open in the seventh inning, scoring four runs. Three of their four runs came on RBI singles from Andres Gimenez, Bo Bichette, and Addison Barger.
Ohtani struggled on the mound tonight, giving up four earned runs in six innings. He got into trouble in the top of the seventh and couldn’t work out of it. Dave Roberts turned to Anthony Banda to stop the bleeding, but he ended up allowing two more runs.
Shane Bieber was able to keep Toronto in this game tonight, allowing just one earned run in 5.1 innings. John Schneider wasted no time going to his bullpen, bringing in Mason Fluharty to get the final two outs of the inning. From there, Chris Bassitt and Louis Varland shut the Dodgers’ lineup down, leading the team to a much-needed victory.
Toronto Continues To Show Fight!
After the devastating 18 inning loss in Los Angeles last night, Toronto was able to quickly bounce back and even the series at two games apiece. Very few teams can move on from a loss like that quickly, and the Blue Jays simply weren’t phased.
They continue to overcome adversity in the postseason. After falling behind 2-0 to the Seattle Mariners in the ALCS, they stormed back, winning the next two games. Not only this, but they also won the final two games of the series with their backs against the wall, clinching a spot in the World Series.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow night for Game 5 in Los Angeles. It will be a pitching rematch of Game 1, as Blake Snell will look to bounce back after giving up five earned runs in the first game. For the Blue Jays, it will be rookie Trey Yesavage, who was able to shut the Dodgers down.
