Tony Vitello Closing in on Becoming 2026 San Francisco Giants Manager
The San Francisco Giants have a manager opening, and there is one intriguing name that has been linked to the position to the point that it looks like things are getting close to being finalized. The Giants parted ways with manager Bob Melvin after the 2025 regular season and this gave president of baseball operations Buster Posey a chance to look for the manager of the team for the future. Let’s take a deeper dive into one of the names linked to the team and what it would mean going forward.
Tony Vitello Close to Becoming Next San Francisco Giants Manager

The San Francisco Giants are opening their search and it appears that Tennessee Volunteers manager Tony Vitello is one of the main targets of the front office. He has been to the top of the hill in college baseball as he won the 2024 College World Series with the program as he has been with the team since 2018, with this being the first head coach position he has had in his coaching career. With a career record of 341-131, Vitello would bring a sense of a winning culture to the Giants if he were to be hired.
He has incredible success with the program as he has made three College World Series appearances, five NCAA Super Regions, and six NCAA regional appearances. With a veteran roster with the Giants, this could be a massive addition to the team and give them a sense of direction with a first-time MLB coach to help get them back in the NL West hunt.
Vitello has mentioned that there is no news to confirm at the moment, but this is not the only MLB job opening the Vols manager has been linked to. He has also been in the conversation for the opening of the Atlanta Braves following the team deciding not to retain Brian Snitker following their season. It will be interesting to see if Vitello is going to be managing in the Bay Area for the forseeable future or if he decides to stay with the Tennessee Volunteers.
