St. Louis Cardinals Take On New York Yankees In Big Game 2
The St. Louis Cardinals hosted the New York Yankees in the second game of a three-game series. Neither Max Fried nor Sonny Gray pitched well, as it was humid in St. Louis. There was some thought that the humid conditions adversely affected the pitchers. It was odd not to see Paul Goldschmidt in the Yankees’ starting lineup against the St. Louis Cardinals.
He played for the team for six years before signing with the Yankees this season. With Giancarlo Stanton not in the starting lineup either, the Yankees had a good bench as they took on the Cardinals. Do you think the Yankees still have a chance to make the playoffs?

News and Notes
Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman still thinks the Yankees can make the playoffs. When asked about the situation, he said, “We just need to win. The obvious answer to that question, to state the obvious, is we’ve got to win tonight’s game and keep it simple, one game at a time, but then string together win after win.” Goldschmidt has fond memories of St Louis. Though he was not in the starting lineup on Saturday.
Game Reaction
Stanton was not in the starting lineup for the Yankees today. Neither was Cody Bellinger, who is sick. He was 0-of-5 on Friday. Gorman is playing third base for the St. Louis Cardinals. He is playing there for the injured Nolan Arenado. Many Cardinals, like Gorman, are getting a chance to play now.
The Yankees needed Fried to pitch well in this game against the St. Louis Cardinals. He did not. He gave up five runs by the time there was only one out in the second inning. Also, for the Yankees, Rice had 7 RBI. That tied a career high.

Conclusion
Fried pitched poorly again against the St. Louis Cardinals. He gave up five runs by the time there was one out in the second inning, and he had his first one-two-three inning in the third. Gray was just as bad. It was humid in St. Louis, so there was some thought that the humidity affected pitch grips. The Yankees take on the Cardinals again today at 2:15 pm. It is supposed to be close to 100 degrees.
