Philadelphia Phillies Re-Sign Massive Slugger to 5-Year Contract
The Philadelphia Phillies have to make some interesting decisions for the team this offseason, and it appears one of the first major moves has been made. With the team looking to overtake some major teams in the National League, let’s take a deeper dive into the move they have made to improve their roster going forward.
Philadelphia Phillies Re-Sign Kyle Schwarber

The Philadelphia Phillies were able to keep one of their beloved sluggers as ESPN’s Jeff Passan is reporting the team has re-signed Kyle Schwarber to a five-year, $150 million contract on Tuesday. This is a massive boost to the team for the 2026 MLB season as they retain their leadoff hitter and one of the locker room leaders.
Schwarber had an excellent 2025 season as he finished second in the NL MVP race, as he had a .928 OPS with 56 home runs, 132 RBI, 111 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases on 12 attempts. He would decline the qualifying offer and make some extra money as a result.
Despite entering his age-33 season and being primarily a designated hitter, this did not appear to be an issue for one of the premier free agent hitters. It is difficult to imagine that type of production continuing without a drop-off at his age, but this is a good contract for the now.
In a division with some of the top pitchers in the majors, getting a veteran hitter who can control the strike zone is significant for the Phillies at the top of the order. This contract could be a sign of where some other free agent hitters could land, but it will be interesting to see if the Philadelphia Phillies are out of contention for another everyday player to improve the lineup even more.
UPDATE: It was also announced on Tuesday that Kyle Schwarber will be part of Team USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic
