San Diego Padres On Historic Pace Through 33 Games
The San Diego Padres have gotten off to a historic start this regular season. They have amassed 8 shutouts through their first 33 games this year. That is the third-most shutouts in league history through 33 games. They trail the 1876 St. Louis Brown Stockings(9), 1914 Boston Red Sox(9), and 1968 Cleveland Indians(10) in that department.
San Diego has shut out the Atlanta Braves(2x), Cleveland Guardians, Colorado Rockies(3x), Detroit Tigers, and earlier today the Pittsburgh Pirates. Will the San Diego Padres continue stifling the opposition at the plate?
San Diego Padres Season Summary
The Padres have been one of the league’s best teams(22-11) to begin the year. Their offense has been middling. They are third in batting average, 21st in home runs, and 18th in runs scored. Right Fielder Fernando Tatis Jr. is seventh in batting average and ninth in On-Base Percentage.
As should be expected, San Diego’s pitching staff has been tremendous. They are the league leaders in ERA, fourth in WHIP, and second in opposing batting average. Starting Pitcher Nick Pivetta is second in wins and fifth in ERA. Starting Pitcher Michael King is ninth in ERA.
Final Thoughts
San Diego’s pitching staff will have its work cut out for them holding down the offense of the New York Yankees. New York comes to town for a three-game set beginning on Monday. The Padres will look to keep up their historic start and be a threat in the National League.
