Salvador Perez a Hitting Machine, Goes 5-Of-8 With 4 Doubles
Salvador Perez has been hitting the cover off the ball his entire career. Thursday was no different during a doubleheader at Kaufman Stadium versus the Colorado Rockies. His big day at the plate helped lead the Kansas City Royals to a doubleheader sweep of the Rockies, 7-4 and 6-2. It was their first series sweep of the season and 4th win in a row after losing the previous six.Â
Perez Knocks the Ball Around
The Royals needed some offensive prowess as of late. They finished their road trip earlier in the week 2-8, but kept the motivation and believed their success would come. They also hadn’t scored more than four runs in a game in 17 games. That turned around in both games against the Rockies. Perez was a huge part of that.
In game one, against German Marquez, Perez smoked a 2-RBI double down the left field line to give the Royals a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. He hit another double in the third and came around to score on a Michael Massey single. He switched it up in the 5th, walking, but ultimately scoring on another single, this time by Kyle Isbel.Â
Game 2 was more of the same. In the bottom of the second, he hit his third double of the day and broke his belt while sliding into second base. He cruised home later in the inning on a sacrifice fly from Massey. In the 5th, he doubled yet again, scoring two, but this time to center field instead of the last three to left. It was his 4th on the day. If his offense wasn’t amazing enough, he topped it off with a single in the 7th.
It was a massive day for the Venezuelan slugger. He finished the two games 5-of-8, with four doubles and a walk, while also driving in four and scoring three of his own.Â
The Royals
The Royals are currently sitting in third place in the American League Central at 12-14. They are 3.5 games back from the first-place Detroit Tigers. KC holds a commanding lead over the 4th-place Minnesota Twins. All the Royals need to do is stay hot keep winning games, and hopefully see the Tigers and Cleveland Guardians lose a few. The Central is always up for grabs, but it seems like there is becoming more of a competitive atmosphere at the top.
