Ryan Weathers 3-2 Loser As New York Yankees Can’t Stop Slide Against Baltimore Orioles

May 2, 2026; Bronx, New York, USA; New York Yankees pitcher Ryan Weathers (40) delivers a pitch during the fourth inning against the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium.

Ryan Weathers came back for this game against the Baltimore Orioles. The Yankees lost 3-2. He was great, but the bullpen betrayed him. As the sweep at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers over the weekend demonstrated, the Yankees struggle against the better teams. They need to score some runs.

Weathers missed his last start with a nasty viral infection. He reported trouble sleeping and said he lost nine pounds. He is an important part of the Yankees’ pitching staff, and when Gerrit Cole comes back, he is likely to move to the bullpen. This move will make the Yankees bullpen stronger. Do you agree?

Yankees and Baltimore Orioles Game Summary

The Yankees benefited from the start by Ryan Weathers. They were certainly hoping for a healthy Ryan Weathers. Ben Rice hit a two-run home run in the third inning. That was it for the offense.

The Baltimore Orioles got three runs in the seventh inning on a three-run home run by Colby Mayo. That was bad because Ryan Weathers was throwing a no-hitter and was removed from the game, and Brent Headrick gave up the three-run home run. That was the way the game ended, a 3-2 defeat for the Yankees.

Ben Rice and Spencer Jones Are Friends

Ben Rice and Spencer Jones played together in the minor leagues. They struck up a friendship. So, when Jones was called up to the Major Leagues over the weekend, he wanted to ensure Rice knew that he was going to follow him around, to show him the ropes. “I told Ben this morning I’m going to be attached to his hip today,” Jones said. Rice agreed and told Jones what he should expect in the Majors.

Weathers Must Be Feeling Good

Ryan Weathers seemed fully recovered from his viral infection. He threw a fastball in the fourth inning at 97 miles per hour. At that point, he had six strikeouts. His only blemish to that point was a leadoff walk to Taylor Ward. He did not allow a hit until the seventh inning. He ended up pitching 6.1 innings, struck out nine, and walked three. In 101 pitches, he was dominant, not allowing a run. Clearly, he benefited from having some time off.

Then, Headrick came in and allowed a three-run home run. Two of those runs were charged to Weathers, and because of the Yankees’ ineffective offense, Ryan Weathers could not even win this game.

A Concern

It is fair to wonder if the Yankees are going to score enough runs this year. Their pitching has been good this season, and this lineup led all of baseball in runs scored last season. However, they were just swept in Milwaukee because they could not hit Brewers pitching, and in this game, they made Brandon Young look like Cy Young.

He threw a season-high 97 pitches tonight. The Yankees only got three hits off him. Rice had two, and Aaron Judge had one. Young was removed from the game after getting Cody Bellinger to ground out to first base. He matched innings with Ryan Weathers.

Then, the Yankees had a runner, Judge, on third base with one out. They did not score. Jazz Chisholm Jr. struck out. He is batting .203. Tonight, he was 0-of-4 with three strikeouts.
