Preview: Yanks Visit Boston for 4 Game Series
Preview of the Yankees visiting the Orioles for a four-game series. As a quick preview, both teams have a pitching advantage in two games of this series so that this one could be a split, but the Yankees hope to win three of the four games at Camden Yards. The Yankees have their two aces, Carlos Rodon and Max Fried, starting in this series. This series will be so intense that it will be like a preview of the playoffs. How many games in this series do you think the Yankees will win?
Preview Of Pitching In Orioles-Yankees Series
The Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins in two games of a three-game series. Now they travel to Baltimore to face a dangerous and hungry Orioles team that would like nothing more than to rain on the Yankees’ playoff parade. Both teams have the pitching advantage in two of the four games. It is to a preview of these pitching matchups we now turn.
Game 1
Tonight at 7:15 p.m. (on Fox), Max Fried will start for the Yankees. He seems to be back on track after a July swoon. Overall, he is 17-5 with a 3.03 ERA. He has a shot to win 20 games this season if he wins tonight. Cade Povich is opposing him. Povich has been bad this season, with a 3-7 record and a 5.05 earned run average. However, he has won both of his last two starts and has pitched 6 innings in each.
Game 2
In game two, Will Warren will be opposed by Trevor Rodgers. Warren has been inconsistent for the Yankees, so it is difficult to preview how he will pitch. Overall, he is 8-7 with a 4.44 ERA. Rodgers, on the other hand, has been outstanding this season. He is 8-2 with a 1.83 earned run average.
Game 3
A preview of the pitching in game 3 of 4 in this series sees Carlos Rodon pitching for the Yankees. He is 16-9 this season with a 3.11 earned run average. He has 190 strikeouts this season, so he will likely punch out 200 batters this season. Rodon is being opposed by Tomoyuki Sugano. He is 10-8, with a 4.39 earned run average. However, it is important to note that he struck out 8 batters in 5 scoreless innings pitched against the Yankees on April 28.
Game 4
The fourth game of this series will take place at 1:35 pm on Sunday, the only afternoon game of this series. In this game, the Yankees’ youngster Cam Schlittler is being opposed by Kyle Bradish. Schlittler pitched poorly in his last game, and for that reason, the Orioles probably have the pitching advantage in this game. This game is interesting because both of these pitchers are inexperienced. Bradish has only made four starts. It is fair to wonder if Schlittler is running out of gas; this is more than he has pitched.
Hitting Preview
In terms of a hitting preview, Camden Yards is a bandbox, so it is fair to expect lots of home runs in this series. Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and the rest of the Yankee sluggers should feast in this series. One interesting thing in this series for the Yankees is the pursuit of Jazz Chisholm Jr. of a 30-30 season. He is one home run shy of 30, so expect him to swing for the fences. The young Orioles have disappointed this season. There is nobody on the team with 20 home runs or a .300 batting average. Fans have been waiting for the Orioles’ hitters to break out. Well, it is mid-September, so it is getting late.
Conclusion
This series will be interesting because the Yankees need to win at least three of the games in this series to keep pace in the American League playoff race. The Orioles have struggled all season and are in last place in the American League East division. They would like nothing more than to rain on the Yankees’ parade. So, we are likely to see four good games.
