Arizona Diamondbacks Starting Pitcher Michael Soroka Gets Roughed Up In Start Against Philadelphia Phillies

Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Michael Soroka (34) throws a pitch against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Arizona Diamondbacks Starting Pitcher Michael Soroka came to the “City of Brotherly Love” in great form. What he got was a rude awakening in Philadelphia at Citizens Bank Park. The bottom of the 1st inning went about as poorly as it could have.

He surrendered four earned runs in the frame. Bryce Harper notched an RBI double, and Brandon Marsh added a three-run home run to help the Phillies jump out to a 4-0 lead. Was a terrible start a harbinger of things to come?

How Did the Rest Of the Start Go?

Fortunately for Soroka, he settled in as the game went on, but it was far from smooth sailing. He stranded runners on 1st and 3rd in the bottom of the 4th inning. To add to the positivity, the Arizona offense picked up its veteran. Arizona put up 5 runs in the top of the 5th inning. Soroka tossed 5.2 innings and surrendered 4 earned runs while striking out 10. He left the game in position to notch his third win of the season.

Michael Soroka’s 2026 Season

Soroka entered this evening’s start against the Phillies, firing on all cylinders. He was 2-0 with a stellar 0.90 ERA. He surrendered a lone earned run over 10 innings of work. His first start of the season came against the Detroit Tigers. Soroka tossed 5 scoreless innings and punched out 10. It was his most strikeouts(before tonight) since June 22 of last year against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Soroka built on his strong start against the Tigers by giving up an earned run in 5 innings at home against the Atlanta Braves. With such great form coming into tonight’s game, such a miserable 1st inning was a shock.

When Will Soroka Pitch Again?

Soroka’s next scheduled start is on the road against the Baltimore Orioles on April 15. He last faced the Orioles on May 18, 2025, and acquitted himself well. He surrendered 3 earned runs over 5.2 innings. Even though the veteran starter struggled to begin the game, he got back on track. That is the mark of a wily veteran.
