2025 Manager Of the Year Announced
A manager in Major League Baseball has to make many high-pressure decisions. The job of a manager affects every aspect of a baseball team. There were winners for Manager of the Year in both the American and National Leagues. Stephen Vogt of the Cleveland Guardians won in the American League; Pat Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers won in the National League.
That said, this is probably the most subjective award given out by Major League Baseball. Both of these guys had good years, and their teams had better-than-expected seasons. This award was announced tonight. Given this, do you feel these Manager of the Year awards are justified?
Pat Murphy and Stephen Vogt Win Manager Of the Year
Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers won the National League Manager of the Year Award. The Milwaukee Brewers were the best base-running team in the Majors this year. They were aggressive on the bases and always put pressure on the defense. All of these calls are made by the manager. Also, the Milwaukee Brewers’ bullpen usage was excellent. This was after trading their closer, Devin Williams, to the New York Yankees. Murphy is a repeat winner of the award.
With respect to Vogt of the Cleveland Guardians, he was a repeat winner as well, in his first two seasons. He got 11 of the 17 votes. He did a masterful job, with a long winning streak and navigating several landmines, including two pitchers who have been indicted. This is the first time in history that there have been repeat winners in the Major League Baseball.
Finalists For Manager Of the Year
In the American League, the Blue Jays’ John Schneider was a nominee after taking the Toronto Blue Jays from worst to first in the American League East. Dan Wilson steered the Seattle Mariners to first place in the AL West for the first time since 2001, and the Cleveland Guardians’ late-season surge to the top of the AL Central is a chief reason why Vogt was named manager of the year for a second straight year.
In the National League, the Milwaukee Brewers‘ Murphy, like Vogt, was also looking to take home the award for the second consecutive season after the Brewers finished with the best record in Major League Baseball. A win for the Philadelphia Phillies’ Rob Thomson would have been his first. Thompson is a former Yankees coach. The Cincinnati Reds’ Terry Francona could earn this honor for the fourth time, tied for the most in Major League Baseball history.
Conclusion
It might be interesting to see the historical managers of the year. That said, the past only tells us so much. A good baseball manager can indeed make the difference between a team being .500 and a team making the playoffs.
The managing across Major League Baseball was weak in 2025. There were a lot of rookie managers and quite a few who hurt their teams. The Cy Young Award for best pitcher in the American and National Leagues is awarded tomorrow night. The Most Valuable Player Award will be given on Friday.
