Luis Gil Tries To Get New York Yankees Off On Right Foot In Game 1
Luis Gil has pitched much better after a bad first start, after being on the injured list. He had a huge opportunity ahead of him tonight, as a win would improve the Yankees’ position in the standings and get them halfway to their stated goal of taking two games in Boston.
Gil, however, was once again troubled by walking batters (particularly in the fifth inning), but the opportunistic Boston Red Sox were outslugged by the Yankees, who won this game 4-1. Do you think Gil should be in the Yankees’ playoff starting rotation?

News and Notes
Yesterday’s game was a resounding victory for the New York Yankees over the Detroit Tigers. Throughout the game, the Yankees commemorated September 11th. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, attended the game.
This was an Apple+ game, and many people, including me, were not able to watch it. Judge hit two home runs last night, and then he hit one in the first inning tonight. With that blast, he passed Joe DiMaggio for fourth on the Yankees’ all-time list.
Game Reaction
Gil pitched well in this game. He did not allow a hit in 6 innings pitched. He successfully continued the momentum from his last few starts. Walks were not really an issue for him, though he did get wild in the fifth inning.
Judge hit a 442-foot home run, over the vaunted Green Monster in the first inning. That home run was the 362nd of his career and gave him sole possession of fourth place on the Yankees’ all-time home run list. Gil got wild in the fifth inning. He walked two batters and threw his second wild pitch of the game.
Scoring Summary
In the first inning, Judge hit a solo home run. The Yankees led 1-0.  In the third inning, Bellinger singled and Judge scored. The Yankees led 2-0. In the seventh inning, McMahon reached on a fielder’s choice, and Caballero scored. Then Rice singled and McMahon scored. It was 4-0 Yankees. In the seventh inning, Eaton hit a solo home run. It was 4-1 Yankees.
Conclusion
Gil pitched well tonight. He did not allow a hit through six innings. Though it was clear neither he nor the Red Sox knew where the ball was going. He walked four batters and threw two wild pitches. He was relieved in the seventh inning, and Fernando Cruz promptly gave up a home run. There went the no-hitter. All Yankees fans held their breath.
