Jesse Chavez Retires Following 18 Seasons In Major League Baseball
Veteran Relief Pitcher Jesse Chavez retired from Major League Baseball today after 18 seasons. His final year in the big leagues did not go according to plan. He had a 9.00 ERA with the Atlanta Braves in 2025. He was sent down to AAA and elected to become a free agent. A few days later, he hung up his cleats once and for all. How will his career be remembered?
Jesse Chavez Career Summary
Chavez was the quintessential journeyman. Each time you saw him, he seemingly had a different uniform on. He spent time with the Atlanta Braves, Oakland Athletics, Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
His crowning achievement was helping the Atlanta Braves win the 2021 World Series. He did not surrender an earned run over 6.1 innings during that postseason run. Chavez ended his career with a 51-66 record and 4.27 ERA.
Final Thoughts
Chavez will be remembered for his lengthy MLB career and how he pitched during the 2021 MLB Playoffs. He was a respected locker room presence during the many stops of his career. Hopefully, he will be just as fulfilled in retirement as he was pitching on the mound.
