Game 3 Presents Another Opportunity For the New York Yankees
Game 3 between the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees presents yet another opportunity for the Yankees to take just one game of this series. Game 3 will feature the Blue Jays wearing blue, as opposed to red, which they wore in the second game. In this game, 3 the Blue Jays probably have the pitching advantage with Jose Berrios starting for the Blue Jays against Will Warren for the Yankees. However, Warren has pitched very well this season, with 107 strikeouts. However, he has been inconsistent, and one never knows. Do you think the Yankees will win this game?
Game 3 In Toronto Is An Opportunity For the Yanks
In game 3 in Toronto, the Yankees will try to win one game in Toronto. In this game 3, the Blue Jays most likely have the pitching advantage as Berrios starts the game against Warren. Berrios has been a good pitcher in the major leagues for a long time and is having another fine season. He is 4-3 with a 3.26 earned run average. He has done that over 102 innings this season.
In contrast, the Yankees have Warren going for them in this game. He has been inconsistent this season. On the plus side, he does have the most strikeouts for a rookie pitcher, with 107. However, the Blue Jays do not strike out, so this will be quite a clash. Warren is 5-4 with a 4.37 earned run average. His earned run average is inflated after a terrible start against the Los Angeles Dodgers, so it is not the best indicator of success. He is, however, not likely to be able to strike out many Blue Jays.
Game 3 Features Hot Blue Jays
The Blue Jays come into game 3 of this series with the third-best record in Major League Baseball since May 8. Their record is behind only the Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays. The red-hot Blue Jays have eroded the Yankees’ big lead in the American League East. A long, hot streak will do that for a team. Buck Showalter famously quipped, Every team is going to win 50 games and every team is going to lose 50 games; it matters what teams do with the other 62games. So, expect the red-hot Blue Jays to cool off somewhat.
Some Good Injury News For Yanks
The Yankees got some good injury news coming into game 3. First, Trent Grisham, who injured his hamstring, will likely not have to go on the injured list. That is good news, as Grisham has been very good for the Yankees all season. To compensate, the Yankees called up Outfielder Bryan De La Cruz from AAA Scranton. This was a little disappointing as the Yankees did not call up top prospect Spencer Jones. Oswald Peraza was the Yankees’ emergency outfielder in the second game of the series.
There was some more good injury news for the Yankees. Luis Gil is going to make a rehabilitation start for AAA Scranton on Saturday. He looks to join the Yankees after three starts in Scranton. He will be back soon for the Yankees. His joining the starting rotation is like acquiring a great starting pitcher via trade. At least that is what General Manager Brian Cashman says.
Conclusion
It will be interesting to see if the Yankees can clean up their mistakes in game 3. For the better part of a month, maybe longer, the Yankees have committed fielding errors and baserunning gaffes. They are not playing like a team with championship aspirations. The Yankees need to win at least one game in Toronto. We will all see if they can do it tomorrow at 7:07 pm. It is important that the Yankees do not look past this series to the upcoming weekend series with the Mets. There is little chance of that now.
