Colorado Rockies-New York Yankees Game 2 Preview
The Colorado Rockies, a historically bad baseball team, shocked the Yankees with a 3-2 victory against them last night. The Yankees have 30 wins, Colorado has only 9. The list of awful statistics for the Colorado Rockies is simply too long to put here!
The Yankees are looking to rebound in this second game with a victory. For them, this three-game series in Colorado is ahead of three three-game series in Los Angeles, against the Angels, who have won 10 games in a row, and then against the Dodgers. The latter series reprises the 2024 World Series. So, the Yankees need to win in Colorado. Do you think the Rockies will shock the world again?
Summary Of Game One
In the first game, Colorado played against New York last night they won 3-2. This win was only their 10th of the season. It was also despite more heroics from star Yankee slugger, Aaron Judge. Judge had a home run and an RBI single. He was the only Yankee who hit.
In the process, he raised his batting average from .396 to .398. Many Yankee fans traveled to Denver to see him play. He did not disappoint. That was the first home run he has hit in Colorado, which leaves only three more stadiums the larger-than-life slugger has not homered in. However, with the balanced schedule, he will play three games in all stadiums.
Colorado Against New York Pitching Matchup
In this game two matchup the Yankees’ starting pitcher will be Max Fried, and the Rockies’ starting pitcher will be Kyle Freeland. Fried has been outstanding for the Yankees this season. They are 10-0 in his starts, and he is 6-0. Fried has a microscopic 1.29 earned run average. He has been one of the best, if not the best, starting pitchers in all of baseball.
Freeland has been the opposite of that for Colorado. He is 0-6 with a 5.68 earned run average. He is winless this year, and the Yankees have not lost a game when their starting pitcher has started. Seems like a surefire Yankee win on paper. But games are not played on paper. They are played by human beings, who can have good days and bad days. The Yankees made last night’s Colorado starting pitcher, Tanner Gordon, look like Cy Young, so one never knows.
Colorado Against New York Batting Order
I have been following baseball for three decades, and I have not heard of some of the guys in the Colorado batting order. The Colorado Rockies had Jordan Beck in left field, batting leadoff. Ezequiel Tovar was the shortstop batting second. He is the best player on the team. Hunter Goodman was the designated hitter, batting third. He was the catcher last night.
Michael Toglia was the first baseman batting fourth. Brenton Doyle was the center fielder batting fifth. Tyler Freeman was the right fielder and batted sixth. Adael Amador was the second baseman and batted seventh. Aaron Schunk was the first baseman and batted eighth. Jacob Stallings was the catcher and batted ninth. Colorado took Ryan McManan out of the lineup, he was their hitting star last night.
For the Yankees, Paul Goldschmidt batted first and was the first baseman. Trent Grisham was the center fielder and batted second. Judge batted third and was the right fielder. Cody Bellinger was the left fielder and batted fourth. Anthony Volpe was the shortstop and batted fifth. Jasson Dominguez was the left fielder and batted sixth. DJ LeMahieu was the second baseman and batted seventh. Austin Wells caught, playing a day game after a night game, and batted eighth. Oswald Peraza was the third baseman, batting ninth.Â
Conclusion
Fried needs to come back down to earth for the New York Yankees and Freeland will not go winless all season for the Colorado Rockies. Nevertheless, it is difficult to see how Colorado will win this game. Buck Showalter, who managed the Yankees and several other teams, famously quipped, “Every team is going to win 50 games, and every team is going to lose 50 games; it matters what they do with the other 62.” This is one of those other 62 games for the Yankees, they must win!
