They still are not scoring. The lack of scoring has been a problem. However, Fried has been the beneficiary of good run support in previous starts. Game Reaction: Can Fried do it?
The Red Sox were wearing their traditional uniforms today. That is the first time in this series. Also, for Father’s Day, all of the players were using blue bats, and many of the other players used blue pads and gloves. All players were also wearing blue ribbons on their jerseys. Trevor Story has been hitting well recently, and he was rewarded by being the fourth batter in the Red Sox starting lineup. The Red Sox believe he can do better. The weather was pretty good in Boston overall.
It was 64 degrees Fahrenheit and partly cloudy. It was going up to 68 degrees. One never knows what they are going to get in Boston. It can get cold in Boston in June, as we saw last night. Judge struck out in his first three at-bats. He has struck out three times in each of the last two games. He needs to start hitting if the Yankees are to score runs. His batting average had decreased to .384 before this game. It is no wonder the Yankees are struggling to score runs; how Judge performs, so do the Yankees. Aaron Judge can do better. Fried gave up a first inning run.
That was not a good start for the Yankees. Halfway through the games, Max Fried had been the beneficiary of three double plays, and the Red Sox second baseman, Kristian Campbell, had committed two errors. ”The Red Sox have now made sixty-four errors. The most in Major League Baseball. The Red Sox are trying to steal runs from their starting pitching because their bullpen has been working so hard this season. They have gotten great starting pitching in this series.
News and Notes
Jasson Dominguez made an epic baserunning gaffe last night. In the seventh inning, after hitting a great double, Jasson Domiguez wandered off second and was tagged out on his way to third base. The Yankees are not scoring and need runs, so getting cut down on the bases was unsatisfactory. “For some reason, I thought he had two strikes,” Domínguez said, referring to Trent Grisham, who swung and missed the pitch
“I have nothing to say, no excuses. I made a mistake.” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Domínguez felt “terrible” about the mental error, adding, “It’s probably something that won’t ever happen to him again.”Domínguez’s glum expression matched the Yankees’ weekend mood as they fell to 1-4 against Boston this season while dropping their second series against the rivals. Can Dominguez do better?
Slugger Giancarlo Stanton has not been in the Yankees’ batting order in any of the three games in Boston. It looks like he will make his season debut at home next week against the Los Angeles Angels. The Yankees are being conservative with him, which makes sense, but they believe he can come back to the Yankee lineup soon.

Scoring Summary
The Red Sox scored in the first inning. Story singled, and Gonzalez (who tripled) scored. The Red Sox jumped out to a 1-0 lead.In the fifth inning, Rafael Devers hit a solo home run (his thirty-first against the Yankees) and the Red Sox took a 2-0 lead. That is how it ended.
Final Thoughts
Max Fried has been very good this season. Following the Yankees’ losses, he is 7-0. He had another opportunity today, as the Yankees have lost the first two games in Boston. That said, this game was decided by the bullpen. The Yankees anemic offense meant the two runs Max Fried gave up looked like twenty because the Yankees did not score in the first five innings.
