Cam Schlittler Huge In Game 1 Victory For New York Yankees
Cam Schlittler was perfect in his last outing through six innings. He looked to do at least as well tonight for the Yankees against the light-hitting Nationals. He has very good stuff and overpowered the Nationals all night. The Yankees won 10-5.
This game is just what the doctor ordered, following up on his masterpiece. This series, and the next against the hapless Chicago White Sox, is just what the doctor ordered for the Yankees. How many of these seven games against the Nationals and White Sox do you think the Yankees will win?

News and Notes
Bernie Williams, the famed Yankee center fielder, is making news these days as a guitarist and sound chef. He is playing his guitar soon in Carnegie Hall, and he has been practicing daily since he retired from baseball. He is very good. He was when he was a baseball player, but it was more of a hobby.
Williams apparently started cooking in the minor leagues. “I remember being a young Minor League player; first, second year in the Minors,” Williams said. “There were four or five people to an apartment. We didn’t have money to go out and eat every night, so we just went to the grocery store to get a whole bunch of stuff. I was appointed the cook for the group. Whether it was good or bad, we would have to eat it, no matter what.
“I grew up in Puerto Rico, so I am more partial to Latin American cuisine,” Williams said. “I finally learned how to make rice, baked beans, and a little pork shoulder.” This time, Williams worked as a sous chef, helping prepare a Nova Scotian lobster pasta that Sobel promised would become “your new go-to dish at home when you need to impress.” It seems Williams has gotten better at cooking.
Chisholm Jr. hit his two home runs last night with a heavy heart. He had one more home run tonight. Schlittler is coming off a start where he threw six perfect innings. He is establishing himself as a key part of the Yankee starting rotation.
Game Reaction
Schlittler pitched well tonight. Following up his six perfect innings outing with 6 shutout innings tonight against the hapless Washington Nationals. The Yankees blew this game wide open by scoring five runs in the fifth inning. Cam Schlitter did not need any help as he threw up six zeros. Interestingly, neither Anthony Volpe nor Giancarlo Stanton was in the starting lineup. Volpe has been benched, and Stanton can not play back-to-back games.
Scoring Summary
In the first inning, Bellinger hit a sacrifice fly for the Yankees, and Rice scored. The Yankees led 1-0. That was all the runs that Cam Schlittler would need. In the third inning, Rice hit a solo home run. The Yankees led 2-0.
In the fifth inning, the Yankees scored five runs. First, Judge doubled and Cabaerllo scored. Then, a Bellinger single scored both Grisham and Judge. Then, Chisholm Jr. hit a two-run home run, and Bellinger scored. It was 7-0 Yankees, and the romp was on. Schlittler was removed after the fifth inning. In the seventh inning, Dominguez hit a three-run home run, and Chisholm Jr. and Goldschmidt scored. It was 10-0 Yankees.
In the ninth inning, the Nationals scored five runs. First, Hassell III walked, and Adams scored. Then, Young hit a grand slam. DeJong, Crews, and Hassell III scored. It was 10-5 Nationals, and that is how the game ended. The Yankees probably wish Schlittler had pitched a complete game.
Conclusion
There were no curly Ws for the Nationals tonight, Schlittler and the Yankees offense assured that. The Yankees have scored 395 runs in the first five innings this year, and tonight was no different. The Yankees put this game out of reach in the fifth inning. They were helped by the fact that Schlittler pitched great. He is solidifying himself as a key member of the Yankees’ starting pitching rotation. The Yankees have two more games against the Nationals before heading to Chicago to take on the hapless White Sox. All told, there are seven games against these bottom dwellers, and the Yankees need wins.
