Byron Buxton Has Been a Menace on the Base Paths, Steals 100th Career Base
On Wednesday night, Minnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton reached a career milestone, swiping his 100th career stolen base. A career Twin, it took him until his 11th year to steal all those bags, but he has had a lot of trouble staying on the field throughout his time in the Majors, which has hampered those numbers just a tad.
Buxton Looks Good in Minnesota When on the Field
In the top of the 6th inning against the Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field, in a 0-0 tie, He saw his opportunity for history and ran on a 2-0 pitch to Carlos Correa. Buxton slides into second safely and proceeds to third on a throwing error by catcher Bo Naylor. Buxton’s speed has been putting pressure on defenses while on the base paths and on defense in center field.
Buxton joins an elite group of Twins icons, Kirby Puckett and Torii Hunter, as the only members in franchise history to record 100 home runs and 100 steals. Puckett finished with 207 and 134, respectively, and Hunter with 214 and 128. Buxton is sitting at 139 homers and counting. His numbers would probably be higher in both categories if he hadn’t spent most of his time on the sidelines.
Sadly, Buxton has had a rash of injuries over his career that really limited his playing time. The only full season he had was in 2017, where he played 140 games and made an impact at the plate and in the field. He has never played in more than 102 games in any other season; it’s a shame to see such a talented player sidelined so often.
How Are the Twins Doing?
The Twins have had a tough go of it in 2025 so far, after a promising step forward last season. They are currently in 4th place at 13-19 and seven games behind the first-place Detroit Tigers in the American League Central. Buxton and newcomer Ty France have been the bright spots on offense so far, and pitchers Joe Ryan and Pablo López have been doing all they can to keep the Twins in a place where they can make a run.
