Los Angeles Angels Finally Break Humiliating Losing Streak
While the Los Angeles Angels have had a bunch to be proud of with fantastic players like Mike Trout, Jo Adell, and Jose Soriano on the roster, they have also had some frustration regarding their four-game losing streak. LA had two losses to the San Diego Padres and two losses to the Toronto Blue Jays. But guess what? They eventually bounced back.
The Angels’ Woes In the Padres Series
On April 18, the Padres had strong pitching, and they broke a scoreless tie in the 8th inning. That night, they beat the Angels 4-1. It was a good night for the Padres, who had previously had a bad loss against the Angels. However, this was clearly not a good game for LA. On April 19, the Angels once again lost to the Padres.
However, that game wasn’t all bad for the team. Rookie pitcher Walbert Ureña made his first career start. Ureña struck out eight batters over six-plus innings and had great velocity. He was the fourth pitcher in Angels history to record at least eight strikeouts in his first career start. But it just wasn’t enough to get the win.
The Angels’ Woes In the Blue Jays Series
On Monday, April 20, when the series against the Blue Jays began, the losses continued. As you can guess, it was a great game for the Blue Jays. Not so great for the Angels. The team’s offense had some serious issues. The Angels had 18 strikeouts that night, which they were not too thrilled about. But the Angels have a history of high strikeout games, so I suppose they should be used to it. Anyways, they lost 5-2 that night.
Then on Tuesday, they had their fourth loss in a row. However, that night, Mike Trout made history by playing his 1,366th game in center field for the team, tying with Jim Fregosi for the most games played in a single position in franchise history. Still, even Trout couldn’t save the team.
Soriano Leads the Angels To Victory
By Wednesday, Angels fans tuned into the game, having their hopes high but their expectations low. But later that night, they were likely pleasantly surprised. Soriano, being the fantastic pitcher that he is, pitched five shutout innings, lowering his ERA to 0.24, which is the lowest ERA in a pitcher’s first six starts of a season since 1913 when earned runs became official. Soriano is also the first pitcher since at least 1900 to allow only one total run in his first six starts of a season.
Then, there was Trout, who hit his eighth home run of the season, which was a 428-foot solo shot in the fifth inning. In doing this, Trout was tied with Garret Anderson for the franchise record of 796 extra-base hits. Nolan Schanuel also did a great job with a 4 RBI performance. To top it all off, the Angels were finally able to make a comeback and break their losing streak in a 7-3 victory over the Blue Jays!
Hopes Of a Good Season
The Angels seem to be getting a breath of fresh air from the painful 2025 season. We’ve seen that Soriano is having a historically good season this year. Adell is also having a historic season from a defensive standpoint. Trout is making an amazing comeback. Schanuel is doing great, despite his sore ankle.
The ballclub is still dealing with several injured players, but hopefully, we will see some quick recoveries from these players. If not, let’s hope that players like Soriano, Adell, and Trout can keep up the good work and somehow manage to carry the team. They have been able to hold their own pretty well thus far, but you never know what the future holds.
