The Minnesota Twins, sparked by Jose Miranda’s power, defeated the Houston Astros today by a score of 4-3. The Twins used six pitchers who scattered six Astros hits to help the team win the series 2 games to 1.
Miranda Shows His Power
Jose Miranda contributed a solo home run in the sixth inning to knot the game at 3-3. The homer was Miranda’s sixth of the season. He then delivered an eight-inning double to plate Manuel Margot with the winning run.
Miranda, who is having a fine season, is creating a positive problem for the Twins as Royce Lewis may return to the team as early as this Tuesday. Can manager Rocco Baldelli find a way to keep both of these talented players in the same lineup?
Larnach Leads the Way

Outfielder Trevor Larnach, who is having a renaissance of sorts, started the Twins’ scoring with a solo home run to center field in the first inning. Then, in the second inning, Alex Kirilloff doubled to deep right centerfield, sending home Willi Castro and boosting the Minnesota lead to 2-0.
Larnach has been a pleasant surprise for the Twins after several injury-plagued, disappointing seasons. He currently sports a .327/.443/.770 slash line and is starting to resemble the valuable prospect he was only a few short years ago.
Twins Pitcher Woods Richardson Gets Hammered

Twins starting pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson was roughed up by the Astro’s lineup as he surrendered three hits, two walks, and three earned runs in four and a third innings. The gopher ball was the culprit today as he gave up a solo shot to Victor Caratini in the second inning and a two-run dinger to Alex Bregman in the third.
Reliever Steven Okert recorded the win for the Twins even though he only pitched two-thirds of an inning. Jhoan Duran pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his 10th save for Minnesota.
The Twins have won nine of their past 12 games. On Tuesday, they head to New York to start a three-game series with the dreaded Yankees.
