Michigan Wolverines Basketball Land Son Of 6-Time NBA Champion

Michigan Wolverines Justin Pippen

The Michigan Wolverines basketball program had a season to forget in 2023. Juwan Howard was dismissed after a horrendous season, but the program made a slam-dunk hire. Former Florida Atlantic University head coach Dusty May was soon hired and immediately brought hope to the program. May has landed his first big commitment, and it is a big one. Justin Pippen, the son of six-time NBA champion Scottie Pippen, has committed to the Wolverines.

Michigan Wolverines Land Justin Pippen

This is a huge get for the Michigan Wolverines. The younger Pippen is this class’s No. 62 overall player and the No. 9 combo guard. He is the first player to commit to the program. While the Wolverines are expected to land some players from FAU who previously played under May through the portal, none of them have officially committed. According to 247Sports, this is the highest recruit May has landed in his coaching career.

Fans will likely see Scottie Pippen in Ann Arbor a lot. The former Chicago Bulls star won six championships with the legendary Michael Jordan. While Jordan was the star, Scottie Pippen was a key cog in the machine. If his son is even as half as talented as he was, the Michigan Wolverines are getting a fantastic player.

Quite The Turnaround For The Wolverines

A few months ago, the Michigan basketball program was in shambles. The hiring of Howard was met with optimism. He had been a solid assistant coach in the NBA and was already engrained in the history of the program. However, the team didn’t respond to his coaching, and the team saw their worst season in a while. It is amazing how quickly things can change in college basketball.

The Michigan Wolverines will by no means be Big Ten favorites going into next season, but they will not be the pushover they were this year. May has shown he can put a quality product on the court and win with less. He also shows that he can acquire top-tier recruits like Justin Pippen.
