Matt Brown supported Jon Jones and did not believe that ‘Bones’ would be mocked after retirement. Jon Jones has been running into fights that the UFC has thrown toward him and never said no to the challengers for the Heavyweight Title. Jones is now going to fight Stipe Miocic, who is the two-time World Heavyweight Champion.
A lot of people are having a big argument against this. People are mocking Jones that he is going to retire after fighting Miocic and not fight the famous challenger, Tom Aspinall. Matt Brown has a different view. Brown himself retired and went through what Jon Jones is going through.
Matt Brown about the Aspinalls Challenge
Many people consider Jon Jones as one of the best fighters in the history of the sport. If he decides to retire before he fights the interim UFC heavyweight champion, Tom Aspinall, then one can never question his accomplishments. Matt Brown has always said that Jones should be allowed to pick his opponents after dominating the UFC for close to sixteen years. It is now time for Jones to prepare for Stipe Miocic, and there are rumors that the fight will happen in November.
Brown made this statement in The Fighter vs. The Writer show, “The fact is, it will be forgotten. No matter what Tom does. If Jon retires after he beats Stipe, we’re in the age of news is news for a day. Maybe for a day or two, there will be some people on Reddit saying Jon was scared of Tom or whatever. By next week or whatever … he’ll still be the greatest ever. No one’s going to be like, ‘Oh, Jon’s not the greatest ever because he didn’t fight Tom Aspinall.’ I don’t think a single person’s going to say that.”
Tom Aspinall Promoting Himself
Aspinall will keep on calling out for a fight against Jon Jones, which in turn helps him be more famous and have more recognition as he continues to assert that he is the real UFC heavyweight champion. Aspinall might have a very good argument for being the number-one heavyweight in the UFC right now.
Brown clarified his opinion in these words.”Correct me if I’m wrong. He’s like, ‘I’m the greatest fighter, I got that in the bag. I’m the greatest fighter of all time. I’m going to fight a couple of heavyweight fights. Yeah, I might be a little bit picky about who I fight. I’m the greatest fighter of all time, b**ch. I get to pick my fights now.’
Possible Result
The words of Matt Brown make sense. People would never talk sh*t about Jones after he retires because of him running into every fight the UFC threw at him for years. This would not make either of the fighters less or greater but it would be just the end of a legendary career and the start of another.
