This placed the Colombians under pressure, however, 14 minutes later in the 80th minute, Luis Diaz found the equalizer with Jhon Duran with the assist. Colombia seeks for the winner, but they couldn’t as the game ended in a one-all-draw.
Nestor Lorenzo on the Game
Colombian coach spoke after the game, and he said: “It was going to be a tough match, Peru had just beaten Colombia in the last two matches in the qualifiers and Copa América. The coach’s style of play is physical, very intense and we had to get used to that. The plan was to dominate the ball, but we weren’t lucky enough to create the chances we did. In the second half, we didn’t play much, the referees didn’t help and suddenly we deserved more,”
He also added: “The pitch was in good condition, it was very fast, they practiced a game of cutting lines and centering and they got good results. We have to improve the game, a little bit. I think we were not at the level of the Copa America in terms of the fluidity of the game, but this is the Qualifiers in a different context. You always want to win, but we add up.”
Lorenzo on his Players
Lorenzo also spoke about Carlos Cuesta who was substituted early on in the 2nd half, he said: “Carlos suffered a concussion, he was a bit dizzy in the locker room, he is fine, it is not dangerous, but precautions will be taken. He has been a starter, but we have been cautious with the list, but we will wait for him until the last minute.”
He continued saying: “The kids are part of the process, Durán was already in the first squad, we are bringing them in little by little, they have a lot of future, just like Yaser, Mosquera, or Cabal. We are happy to bring in young players.”
In the end, he hailed his opponents over their first-half display saying: “The first half was physical, they neutralized our game patterns, we made mistakes in our decision-making at the start and in our progression, and in the second, Peru was tired and we were able to play as planned.”
