Many recommended and suggested that the Los Angeles Lakers needed to tank to get a more favorable matchup. However, the only people that mattered completely disagreed. This group of players and coaching staff viewed things differently and wanted to ensure that their season would continue in round one of the NBA playoffs.
The bench didn’t get as much use as they would have liked or would need moving forward. But either way, they got the job done, and the seven-game series is secured.
But will this end up being the bright spot of the postseason for this team, or could they move on from this series to face another opponent?
Season Extending for the Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the New Orleans Pelicans 110 to 106. This was the game that appeared close on the final scoreboard. Ultimately, there wasn’t much in terms of room for doubt that the Lakers would win this game. With some worries about the top and health of this roster, the two stars played well and played 40+ minutes. It’s not known if this is sustainable. But for today, they have locked their place in the postseason and at least stand a chance of winning one more championship.
The “Others” For The Los Angeles Lakers
As indirectly mentioned, LeBron James and Anthony Davis were great. But D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves also had overall solid nights. However, this too is something that needs to be built upon and needs to be more consistent. Finally, Rui Hachimura had 13 points, which is an overall nice production. But as we see in only a four-point win, at least five players need to score in double figures in order for the Lakers to reasonably have a chance to win. Either that or one of the likes of either James or Davis needs to go off for 40-plus points.
Denver Nuggets Are Next for the Los Angeles Lakers
This is the matchup many wanted this team to avoid. But they will now face the Denver Nuggets. It’s known how good the Nuggets are and the matchup issues that they can present to any team. But the same can be said of this Los Angeles roster, at least at the top end. Whether or not you view this team as having a legitimate shot or not, you know that they won’t go down easy and that the Los Angeles Lakers advancing wouldn’t necessarily be a complete shock.
