The Los Angeles Lakers will reportedly sign Center Alex Len. Los Angeles announced the signing on Tuesday. Los Angeles had a massive hole at the center position following the trade of Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Doncic last week. The team also acquired Center Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets at the NBA Trade Deadline, but the deal was rescinded following Williams failing his physical with Los Angeles.
That turn of events set the stage for Len to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers. He was set to sign with the Indiana Pacers after being waived by the Washington Wizards. Len averaged 1.4 points per game and 1.8 rebounds in limited action this season. Los Angeles waived Christian Wood to make room for Len. Will Len be a positive piece for a red-hot Los Angeles Lakers team?

Los Angeles has played the best of any team in the NBA over the last six games. It is an exciting time for the team as Luka Doncic made his debut last night against the Utah Jazz. It was his first game since Christmas Day, and he was on a minutes restriction. As his health improves, and he plays more minutes, Doncic’s production will pick up. Los Angeles is 32-19 and the fourth seed in the Western Conference.
LA’s offense has been mediocre this season. They are 14th in points scored, sixth in field goal percentage, and one of the worst rebounding teams in the association. Len should improve the team’s rebounding woes. The defense of the Lakers has also left much to be desired. They are 13th in points allowed, 16th in opposing field goal percentage, and eighth in opposing three-point percentage.
The rationale behind the Williams acquisition is that he would give the team an inside presence with Davis out of the picture. Len will take that mantle for the final 30 games of the regular season.
Final Thoughts
It is unclear when Len will debut for the Los Angeles Lakers. LA’s final game before the NBA All-Star break is a road matchup against the Utah Jazz. Even though the Williams trade took a shocking turn, Len will provide the team with a veteran presence as they look to keep up their high level of play.
