The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired RHP Connor Brogdon from the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday afternoon for minor league LHP Benony Robles. Brogdon was designated for assignment on Tuesday (April 2) by Philadelphia. He has been a man beating the odds for his entire career. Brogdon was a 10th-round pick out of the not-very-well-known Lewis-Clark State in Idaho. He was moved up and down from triple-A four times last season.
Los Angeles Dodgers: Brogdon Leaves Philadelphia for the First Time
Brogdon made the Phillies opening-day roster but in a very short time, he became expendable after three appearances. In just two innings this season Brogdon is 0-1 with a 27.00 ERA and a 4.50 WHIP. In his career, Brogdon is 8-6 with a 3.42 ERA, 1.150 WHIP, and 9.3 strikeouts per nine innings. The 29-year-old will slide right into the Dodgers bullpen. The team designated RHP Dinelson Lamet for assignment today and recalled RHP Gus Varland from its triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are in first place in the National League West at 7-3 despite its bullpen. It ranks number 18 in the majors with an ERA over five.
