Last season was rough for the Los Angeles Chargers, especially at the cornerback position. Although they could draft one with the fifth overall pick, especially if they trade down, another experienced player was needed on the roster. The former Tennessee Titans corner fits the bill, as the 25-year-old was a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Now with a new team, this corner gets a one-year contract from the Chargers, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Although the contract details haven’t been released yet, it likely won’t be more than a prove-it deal for the former 61st overall pick. Kristian Fulton is coming off his worst season where he was benched and dealt with a hamstring injury. He is still worth another chance with a new team, now paired on the outside with star corner Asante Samuel Jr.
Surprisingly, The Chargers have kept their defensive star pass rushers, with Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack restructuring their contracts. Their other defensive free-agent signings include reuniting with Denzel Perryman and adding Poona Ford to their defensive line. Now they bring it a young cornerback entering his prime.
Kristian Fulton Career Summary
Despite not reaching his potential with the Titans, Fulton has plenty of starting experience, which the Chargers lack with their roster. In four seasons, he has 37 starts in 42 games and would be competing with players like Deane Leonard and Ja’Sir Taylor. At 5’11” and 197 pounds, the former LSU corner still has plenty of potential and would be worth the short-term deal.
Last year, Fulton had five pass deflections and 46 total tackles with no interceptions. Earlier in his career with Tennessee, he had four interceptions and 20 pass breakups, with 104 total tackles. His best season was 2021, where he had a career-best two interceptions.
Chargers Draft Options
If the Chargers trade down especially, top corners like Quinyon Mitchell from Toledo or Terrion Arnold from Alabama are options. It would be wise to avoid lacking depth and quality, especially coming off a season where the J.C. Jackson signing last offseason blew up their plans at the position. This is probably their biggest need on defense, while wide receiver or offensive tackle could be in play if they stick and pick with the fifth overall selection. it has been highly speculated that they want to trade down and acquire more draft capital, so one of the top corners could be an option.
