Completing The 716 Trifecta: Buffalo Joe To Help Buffalo Bills

Buffalo Bills look to complete trifecta

A star has been born in Western New York, and he is looking to make history for being the rare category of players to complete the hometown trifecta in Buffalo. Completing the 716 area code trifecta has rarely been accomplished in the history of the Buffalo Bills. For many readers, you may be wondering what the 716 trifecta is.

The Trifecta

Joe Andreesen, or as many of his teammates call him, “Buffalo Joe,” was born in Depew, New York, in 2000. Depew, New York, is approximately fifteen miles from Highmark Stadium, where the Buffalo Bills play their NFL games. Andreesen grew up going to Bills games with his family. He dreamed that one day he would put on a uniform for his hometown team. Andreesen attended a parade of games wearing Linebacker Matt Milano’s jersey, dreaming of making a game-winning tackle for his hometown Buffalo Bills.

“Buffalo Joe” played high school football at Lancaster High School in Drew. Interestingly, Joe entered the radar of the Buffalo Bills because he played against current Bills General Manager Brandon Beane’s sons. After graduating from Lancaster High, Andreesen enrolled at Bryant University.

College

Bryant University was the only school to offer Andreesen a scholarship coming out of high school. He spent three seasons at Bryant. In 2022, his final season with the Bulldogs, he became Bryant University’s all-time tackles leader with 112 tackles in a season. He transferred to the University of Buffalo to compete in the MAC conference. Andreesen entered the 2024 NFL Draft but was not selected by a team. He attended rookie tryouts with both the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent.

After a successful rookie tryout, the Buffalo Bills signed Andreesen to a contract. After injuries to Milano and several other linebackers in the preseason, Andreesen was forced to play most of the preseason games. He did not disappoint. While he was a longshot to make the 53-man roster, Andreesen completed the 716 trifecta by making the initial roster of the Buffalo Bills.

Analysts began roaring about “Buffalo Joe.” He made his NFL regular season in week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He recorded two tackles in the final minutes of the Bills’ dismantling of the Jaguars on Monday night football.

Final Thoughts

Completing the 716 trifecta is an incredible accomplishment for Joe Andreesen. Other athletes who have completed the trifecta and played in regular season games for the Bills are Wide Receiver Naaman Roosevelt and Defensive End Trevor Scott. Other athletes who spent time on the practice squad of the Bills are G/C Jamey Richard and QB Joe Licata.
