Las Vegas Raiders Beef Up Offensive Line In 2nd Round With Rimington Trophy Award Winner

Las Vegas Raiders enter an important 2024 season,

The Las Vegas Raiders had one of the most interesting picks in the first round. They took the best player available and nabbed tight end Brock Bowers with the 13th overall pick. However, this team still has a lot of holes, with one of them being on the offensive line. It doesn’t matter who is under center if you cannot protect them. The team may have gotten an absolute steal in the second round. They grabbed Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson in the NFL Draft.

Las Vegas Raiders Draft Jackson Powers-Johnson

Jackson Powers-Johnson was another player who was a fringe first-round pick for some. The center out of Oregon was taken by the Las Vegas Raiders with the 44th overall pick. He is the ideal interior offensive lineman for an NFL team. His handwork is excellent and he is able to uproot defenders even on double teams. For a Raiders team who might need to rely on a running game more, Powers-Johnson is a great pick.

Building The Team

The Las Vegas Raiders likely need a quarterback at some point. Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell do not seem to be the long-term answers. However, the Raiders are doing what smart teams do: building in the trenches. Jackson Powers-Johnson has the potential to be the center for the franchise for the next 10 to 15 years. While the quarterback position is important, to have the starting center figured out would be huge.

The Las Vegas Raiders will be a fun team to watch next year. Their offense could be exciting with Davante Adams and Bowers on the field together. They have to figure out the quarterback position, but the draft isn’t over. Vegas might surprise people and start a rookie again this upcoming season. Can Antonio Pierce coach this team up and have them overperform in 2024?
