This Los Angeles Lakers Summer League team has been on a massive losing streak. They went from 0-3 in the California Classic to 0-2 in the NBA 2k25 part of the summer. This is not a great sign for this team. Perhaps they just don’t have the right pieces, or maybe there’s a problem with the coaching staff. Their newest loss comes against the Boston Celtics, who are now 1-1 thanks to the 88-74 win. There’s some time left for the Lakers’ losing streak to come to an end, but it’s starting to look doubtful.
Bronny James Continues to Start

Despite being 0-14 from three and struggling to get field goals on the board, James Jr. has been a consistent starter for this Lakers Summer League team. It’s most likely time to make a change, but the chances that will happen are slim. He did miss a California Classic game, but that didn’t change the team’s luck, so you can’t blame the whole loss on Bronny.
The rookie ended his 25 minutes on the court with two points, three assists, and a rebound. Unfortunately, he joined the trend with the rest of the starters and had multiple turnovers as well. For this game, James Jr. went 1-5 from the field and 0-3 from three. This is very disappointing as the Lakers believed his three-point shooting would be a plus side to drafting him.
Bronny will become a better player. He isn’t going to continue to have a goose egg in the three-point column. I do think he should come off the bench more, but he’s learning and will have the chance to grow. The hate train he’s experiencing right now can’t be easy to deal with. However, the only way he shuts that down is if he starts to actually make a difference for this team.
The Best of The Lakers Summer League
Due to their constant losing, theLos Angeles Lakers have yet to show up on “The Best of” list for our Summer League Spotlight. However, that doesn’t mean they don’t have players that belong there. Dalton Knecht, who made a feature on “The Worst of” list has elevated his game since then. Against the Cs, he had 19 points, one block, three steals, two assists, and three rebounds. Like the others, Knecht turned the ball over a bit, but he made up for it in scoring.
To continue on Colin Castleton didn’t have the best game scoring wise against Boston with just 13 points, but he still went hard on the boards snagging eight rebounds. In the Laker’s loss to the Houston Rockets, he had 10 points and, once again, a monster board night with 10 rebounds to go with two blocks. If I’m the Lakers I’d be pretty happy with what I’m seeing from him.
Tommy Kuhse Consistently Struggling
Unfortunetly, the Summer League isn’t being kind to 26-year-old Tommy Kuhse. He’s had some okay games, but really it’s been an up and down mess. He hasn’t been any help in ending the Lakers losing streak. He didn’t play against the Celtics last game, but he did against the Rockets. He had a decent showing of 11 points and was active in other ways. However, Kuhse has continued these nights of 10 or 11 points and you really should expect more in 20+ minutes.
He isn’t a young guy with zero league experience. He’s played for the San Antonio Spurs and most recently he’s been playing in Germany with Rasta Vechta. Kuhse actually leads the team in scoring with 17.9, but he can’t seem to wake up this summer. Maybe I’m being harsh, but it isn’t just Kuhse having this problem.
A lot of the older players, who have already seen NBA or pro league action, are falling flat in the league. Another example roght not is Zylan Cheatham who isn’t doing the best in the scoring column despite his decent NBL stats. Hopefully, more can come from these players, but it isn’t looking good. Kuhse needs to try and step up, along with other teammates, and put this Lakers losing streak to bed in the NBA 2k25 Summer League.
