Kyrie Irving Ranked As No. 7 By Yahoo Sports’ Ben Rohrbach

Kyrie Irving's rankings as NBA's second option.

Yahoo Sports’ Ben Rohrbach recently ranked Dallas Mavericks veteran Guard Kyrie Irving as No. 7 in his top No. 2 players list. Irving, 32, trailed Boston Celtics Wing Jaylen Brown, Phoenix Suns Guard Devin Booker, and Los Angeles Lakers Forward LeBron James.

Rohrbach ranked Power Forward Anthony Davis as the Lakers’ top option which shouldn’t be surprising. Davis, 31, plays for Los Angeles’ premier franchise and is arguably a top talent in the league. Read on for further details surrounding Rohrbach’s recent rankings.

Ben Rohrbach’s Ranking Of Kyrie Irving

NBA senior writer Ben Rohrbach’s recent NBA player ranking of Dallas Mavericks Guard Kyrie Irving might sound confusing at first, but Rohrbach’s argument makes sense. Rohrbach appears to find it difficult to put Irving behind the Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo, who’s good on the defensive end and on the glass but his impact on the Heat arguably isn’t greater than Irving’s impact on the Mavericks.

Irving was a key piece to the Dallas Mavericks’ puzzle, especially after their most recent NBA Finals run in 2024. Irving’s presence helped the Mavericks succeed on the floor as an offensive creator. If they didn’t have him on the floor, they would not have been as successful. His pure impact also appears to factor in Rohrbach’s recent ranking of him.

Other NBA Player Rankings

American journalist Ben Rohrbach’s other NBA player rankings were based on their overall effectiveness in their respective roles. Rohrbach ranked LeBron James, Devin Booker, Jaylen Brown, Kyrie Irving, Jamal Murray, and Domantas Sabonis from No. 1 to No. 6.

Sabonis’ ranking brought up the question, “Is he second fiddle to De’Aaron Fox?” Sabonis arguably brings more to the table than Murray does, but there isn’t much of a distinction between Sabonis and Irving as opposed to Murray and Irving.

Sabonis is a center and power forward with a defensive rating of 109.9 so far in his NBA career. Sabonis’ overall shooting can be described as extremely efficient, but he can be a hesitant shooter. He might want to work on his free throw shooting, an arguable area of improvement of his.

Irving Might Be Underrated

Dallas Mavericks star Point Guard Kyrie Irving might be underrated by the NBA’s standards. Irving arguably should’ve been ranked third or fourth in Rohrbach’s rankings, but he’s entitled to his opinion. But it’s important to note that Irving’s a solid partner for Luka Doncic, who was ranked second by Rohrbach, thanks to their stable partnership and friendship.

Based on Rohrbach’s rankings, Irving has to prove it on the floor once again this upcoming season as the Mavericks will try to return to the NBA Finals. Irving’s redemption season in Dallas last season wasn’t enough, even though he bounced back and made his fourth NBA Finals appearance after various injuries. With the NBA season right around the corner, Kyrie Irving had a fire lit under him once again.
