It’s hard to poke holes in the Kansas City Chiefs’ roster after winning back-to-back Super Bowls. However, they do have some concerns to address. They addressed one of them Thursday night by adding speedy wide receiver Xavier Worthy. The other need was arguably more important. Patrick Mahomes needs better protection in 2024. He is the franchise quarterback, and keeping him upright is critical. They may have gotten an absolute steal in the second round in offensive tackle Kingsley Suamataia.
Kansas City Chiefs Select OT Kingsley Suamataia
The #Chiefs traded one spot with the #49ers and took BYU OT Kingsley Suamataia at No. 63.
I had them getting him in Round 1. They get him in Round 2. Makes too much sense. pic.twitter.com/pDIgQ3xgPe

This has been a theme of the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Some mocked Kingsley Suamataia to the Kansas City Chiefs in round one, but the team was able to select him with the 63rd overall pick. Suamataia was a team captain for the BYU Cougars last season and started at left tackle. Some analysts think he is a little unrefined but he heads into the perfect situation.
The Kansas City Chiefs had to play the quick passing game a lot last year. Part of this was due to the lack of pass-catching speed, but part of it was due to protection. To make matters worse, right tackle Jawaan Taylor was one of the most penalized offensive linemen in the league. It was clear they needed some young talent at the position and get a quality prospect in Kingsley Suamataia.
A Chiefs Three-Peat
The Kansas City Chiefs did not look dominant at all last season. However, when it was all said and done, they were the last ones standing. Patrick Mahomes’s brilliance and the tenacity of Steve Spagnuolo’s defense propelled this team to another title. One could argue they have gotten better in the offseason. They re-signed many key players and have brought in fresh talent. If the team doesn’t get worse, they will be in the mix for another title.
This is a home run pick for the Kansas City Chiefs. They got an area of need filled, and they could get it at great value. Can this team win a third straight Super Bowl and cement themselves as one of the greatest dynasties in NFL history?
