Jon Jones is going to fight two-time world heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. On the other side, Tom Aspinall is always looking forward to fighting Jon Jones. Dana White says that Jon Jones first has to fight Stipe Miocic and then he can fight Aspinall.
But Tom Aspinall insists that he should be the one having a title shot against Jones. For that reason, he has been calling Jones out for a long time. Jones did not reply on his call-outs very much but recently, he replied to Aspinall. He did not say it directly but he did clarify that he is going to retire very soon and go towards the film industry and handle his businesses.
Tom Aspinall Challenge to Jon Jones
Tom Aspinall challenged Jon Jones on Monday, and now the UFC heavyweight champion and legendary fighter has responded. In several posts on X, Jones, with an impressive record of a 27-1 MMA record and 21-1 in the UFC, made his position clear regarding Aspinall. Aspinall has a 15-3 MMA record and 8-1 in the UFC. Aspinall, who currently holds the interim heavyweight title, had hinted that Jones was dodging a fight with him, and Jones didn’t hold back in his reply.
Jones thinks Aspinall is not that important. Because of this, he isn’t going to fight him after Stipe, as he wrote on X. “I guess there was a video that resurfaced recently of me saying that after Stipe, Francis was the only fight I was interested in,” Jones wrote. “That video was recorded well over a year ago. That was recorded before I got injured before there was an interim champion crowned. I had already voiced that I wasn’t interested in any more randoms.”
Jones’ Advice to Aspinall
When Jones claimed the UFC heavyweight title in March 2023 following Ngannou’s departure left the division’s crown without a champ, Jones himself had yet to make a title defense. He was due to fight Miocic last November but fell ill and has not fought ever since. While all this was happening, Aspinall clinched the UFC interim belt after beating Sergei Pavlovich and later defended the belt in July against Curtis Blaydes.
There’s doubt about Jones coming back to fight Aspinall for the unification of the belts since the UFC is still intent on making the fight with Miocic, which is expected to happen in November. Jones expressed his dominance by saying that there are a lot of fighters who think that they can defeat me but they cannot. “There are fighters all over the world that think in the back of their mind, ‘I can beat Jon Jones,'” Jones said. “There will be no statues of you (Tom). Go out and win more, make your name greater, that is the only way you do it.”
