England has cleared Jofra Archer to play for his national team again after being banned from the international scene for almost four years. Archer will play in the match scheduled to take place on May 22 against Pakistan.
It means that he will be playing his first T20 at home since playing an ODI against Australia in 2020. Saving his best for what may be England’s toughest group in the 2024 World Cup is timely for Bairstow, who has recovered from elbow surgery.
England has an entirely new team for the T20I series against Pakistan that will help them be more competitive as they put together their final combinations and ascertain every player’s fitness. They have learned their lesson after last year’s underperformance in the UAE. Jos Buttler, who is busy with the national team for the sixth series against the West Indies, is not part of the IPL.
Jofra Archer in England Home Return
Jofra Archer is well enough to take the field against Pakistan at Headingley on Wednesday when the four-game T20 series starts this week. His return from elbow surgery and subsequent back stress fracture comes at a perfect time for his side, which will be building momentum heading into the World Cup in the Caribbean next month.
England’s build-up to this tournament differs from the 50 one in Dubai last October when they ignored a warm-up series in the subcontinent. Hence, when they arrived, they were not well equipped for the conditions, and they went to defend the worst-ever world title in history.
This five-match ODI against strong opponents allows England to settle the right XI, form the batting order, prepare players for the number of matches to be played, and determine Archer’s physical fitness for multiple matches in a short time frame.
All the players have been drawn from the franchise with IPL to return home early and miss the playoffs, which has enraged the BCCI. But it is a clear indication that England has learned that they can no longer afford to be complacent about their preparation like last year.
Jofra Archer Will Bring a ‘Fear Factor’ on Return
“It’s very exciting. I am sure England fans and players will be buzzing to have him back,” said Sam Curran. “No side can reserve such an asset. He also has sprinting ability and a pure pace you can use to scare the living daylights out of the opposition.”
He has been through some difficult times with his body, and it will surely be good if he doesn’t suffer another injury. He is back in England to score goals again. He is such a good performer to select for the team. ”
