Jerry Jones Dumbfounded By Dallas Cowboys Early Season Struggles

Jerry Jones Dallas Cowboys

Jerry Jones had high hopes for the Dallas Cowboys this season. While he did not make many roster moves, Dallas still had plenty of talent. Last season, the offense was one of the best in the league behind the play of Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. The defense, led by Pro Bowler Micah Parsons, could create problems for opposing offenses. The season has not gone how many thought it would. They sit at 3-4, and both sides of the ball look subpar. On a radio appearance, Jones expressed shock at the team’s slow start.

Jerry Jones Surprised By Dallas Cowboys Start

Jerry Jones is no stranger to making appearances on 105.3 The Fan to talk about his Dallas Cowboys. In his most recent appearance, he expressed his surprise at the slow start.

“I think we’re having a rougher go than I anticipated. It is rougher, and I did not anticipate the challenges that we’re having with this team.”

Jones added that he thinks the team is lucky to have three wins. Despite how poor the team has looked, they have come out on top three times this season, with one of those being against the AFC North-leading Pittsburgh Steelers. There is a lot to like about this team, but that does not mean there are no major concerns. It isn’t that the Dallas Cowboys have lost. It is how they have lost. In losses to the 49ers, Lions, and Ravens, Dallas had the doors blown off of them in the first half. They are out of the game before it begins. Still, they are not out of the playoff picture by any means.

NFC Playoff Picture

NFL.com has the Dallas Cowboys at a 23% chance of reaching the postseason. They have a lot of teams to hurdle, currently sitting at 13th in the conference. If there is some good news, it is they are 1-0 in the division. They still have five games against the NFC East. If they can win all of those games, they might have a chance at contending for the division. Dallas has also been without some of their biggest starts on defense. Parsons hasn’t played in a month and will miss Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. If they can get some of their stars back, they could be primed for a run.

It won’t be easy. The Commanders and Eagles will not be easy games. Both have high-powered offenses, but the Cowboys have not shown they can slow down elite units. It is rare to see a team go from being this poor defensive to elite. However, it is not impossible. While it hasn’t been an ideal start, they have won enough games to keep themselves in the playoff picture.

Final Thoughts

Jerry Jones might be starting to feel the heat. He boldly claimed this team was “all-in” and expected this team to be competing for a Super Bowl. They are now fighting for their playoff lives as we sit at the halfway mark of the season. If the Dallas Cowboys miss the playoffs, Jones will have to answer many questions about what went wrong and where this team goes from here.
